I am finding the audio level indications and subjective volume of clips recorded with the level control set at 7 .

In vegas the wave form peaks are correspondingly low.

This is using the standrad default mic input level set at -41dBu.

Anybody else using this mic?

The pictures look excellent.

I´m using the 674 with a Z1. To me the volume seems a bit low, too if the Z1´s volume control is set to auto. (Does the Ex1 have an auto volume control? Just heard that the limiter is missing.)
Using manual mode works better for me.

Greg, I have the 673 as well (apart from the stereo Edirol CS-50), and with -41dB both are comparably "low" to the on-board mic. I guess the default -41dB is a bit conservative, so I set it to -49dB with Edirol and even -56dB for the 673.

Thanks Guys

Piotr my thinking too will alter the input sensitivity as you have.

I have found the recording levels low with any mic. The auto level was too low for me to even use. This seems the norm then.

The standard setting provides enough headroom for loud music. Imagine filming some cars or trains passing by - that can be handeld. If the sensitivity would be higher, its impossible to record well balanced audio.

Just raise the input-level to comfort your needs.
