I've created a thread over on the steadicam forum to see if anyone would be interested in a 2-day (usually weekend) workshop in the NYC area. Tiffen says if they get 6-9 people, they will make it happen.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind driving south. If Ted's interested, that would make 2 from NYC area, Tom from Philly (see steadicamforum link), and Steven from Richmond, which makes the center of gravity around Wilmington, Delaware. But we still need at least 6 (preferably more) to get Tiffen interested in putting together a workshop, so that could pull things one way or the other...

Hey, whatever works for everyone. Wilmington's convenient, Philly's obviously convenient, and NYC is quite convenient. Washington would be a bit more difficult, but still would be okay. Keep me updated on whatever you guys pick.

The 2-day workshop is advertised for the Steadicam Flyer model, but Jeff Blugrind said:
"I attended Peter's Flyer workshop in Las Vegas last month to learn the Pilot. He took time to help me adjust the Pilot vest and center post which are a bit different than the Flyer. Outside of setting up the vest and balancing, the Flyer instruction translates to the Pilot."

Also, I just got an email reply back from the instructor, Peter Abraham. He says his schedule is largely locked up and a real Steadicam Workshop takes some logistical planning. So we may have to wait a while.

Too bad you guys weren't talking about this last month, before the writer's strike settled, maybe I could have come out to teach it. But unfortunately I'm about to start a feature.

Quite a shame, I'd have really enjoyed finally getting to talk to you face to face Charles! I'm sure it'll be a rewarding experience nonetheless though!

I hate to give the thread a simple bump, but is anyone else out there interested in a Steadicam workshop? It is money absolutely well spent. A few years ago, I was allowed to come out to one of the larger Steadicam workshops for a day and watch, and the type of instruction that the students receive is worth every penny. For anyone who might want to become a professional operator, or even just take their operating to the next level, this is absolutely a step to take.

I just went through all this, so I would be happy to share what I know.

OK, so it looks like we have 7 people interested. From what I can tell, if we have 6, 7 or 8, they will probably post a public workshop on their website for somtime this summer, and then wait to see if they get a full class of 9. But if we can get a group of 9 people, then they will hold a private workshop, probably much sooner. Since it's only been a week and we already seem to have 7 people interested, I would wait a little longer to see if we can get 9.

In any case, I'll email the instructor again and see what he says.

OK, Just got an update on the NYC area workshop from Peter the instructor.

He is looking at a Steadicam Workshop in the NY area in the next few months. Date to be announced within a day or so. ANYONE who wants in should email Peter at peter@thesteadicamworkshops.com to get on the list. That way, he can insure that the people expressing interest on these threads actually get in. Once he has 9 names, the workshop is closed.
