It's been bothering me that I can't create an HDV file and then export it to tape at a later date. I think I've figured it out. Here's how.
You need to create the HDV file first. That I did by following the instructions at: http://www.mail-archive.com/adobe-premiere@yahoogroups.com/msg08166.html
Now you need an export to tape program. Luckily Premiere comes with the following utility "MPEGHDVEXPORT.EXE" It's in the main premiere folder. I used it as follows:
MPEGHDVEXPORT.EXE "e:\movie.hdv2"
I used the quotes because I had some spaces in my filename. I was able to see the file going out to the camera, but it didn't put the camera into record mode. So, I believe you'll have to hit the record button on your camera yourself.
My method is a bit untested, but hopefully it will help those of you looking for the same solution as myself, or we'll figure it all out together.
