Looks like I have to write an email to Netflix Customer Service about their decision.

Well, I guess this is truly a signal that it really is over... I was holding out hope.. I also noticed on the videoguys site that they lowered the price of the Pioneer 202... Those two together pretty much say it completely to me... Oh well, at least my A2 will play the dvd's I currently have...

Well, these are just the official posturings of what everybody else knew way back. These pronouncements, however, help fuel the migration faster and help institutionalize the BD standard. I hope that these happens pretty quickly so that we all can go on with our lives.

The rest of the world is basically looking at the USA market to take this lead. Hopefully, the tax rebates will spur the spending on BD and this snowballs into an unstoppable momentum, a point of no return. Us wedding shooters will have a better time sleeping knowing that BD is finally the standard of the world.

Me too! I'm certainly going to tell them how happy I am that they're finally doing their part to end this war, that I'm going to switch from blockbuster to Netflix just as a token of thanks for choosing the correct side, and how their decision gives me great relief.

But Blockbuster already chose a side last year[Blu-Ray]. You should definitely stick with them as they chose the correct side first.

As for me, when I can find a Sony Blu-Ray player for around $249 or so[Sony briefly had a Blu-Ray player for $299 this past Christmas--but has since gone back up to $399] and when consumer level Blu-Ray authoring programs become available on the Mac, I will probably get a BR player.

The PS3 is not really what I want...I just want a standalone player.

It is amazing how quickly this happened. No one saw this war ending anytime anytime in the foreseeable future, until CES (or a few days before).

What a shocker when HD-DVD canceled their event. I think this carried more weight than Warners announcement did. Or is this all "inside baseball" that the general public is not aware of?

So the 'Betamax jinx' is over. One reason VHS won was greater recording time. Maybe greater data capacity helped Blu-Ray this time round. Scary how specs rule the world these days. I want my 1080p!

It's about time and yes the correct format won this time, phew!!! Now I can plan on buying BD gear in two years when it's actually viable...

If you're waiting for Blu-ray authoring so that you can author and play your own videos the PS3 might be exactly what you want - because you don't need to author a disc at all. Just put your HD files on a usb storage device and you can play them on the PS3... or do what I do: enable personal web sharing on your mac, copy your videos to the 'sites' folder, and enter your mac's ip address in the PS3 web browser - now you can browse the files on your mac and download them directly to the PS3 hard drive for playback.

I wonder how long till these titles make it to Blu Ray - since they are only available on HD-DVD now.
