Take a look on the lighting condition that would surly screw up a pd170, dvx100. Etc.
HQ 1920 1080 30p
Auto focus...
Shutter 1/60
No Picture profile, only manual white balance.
I did not use ANY NLE...
Out of the XDCAM transfer, into compressor.
I used the 90 min best quality SD template, but I choose CBR 8.0
I added +10 sharpness IN compressor
THAT’S IT!
The EX-1 rocks!
Enjoy

Dennis Schmitz February 26th, 2008, 01:57 PM THX for reposting :)
Hmm, clean but oversharpened.
I would recommened only applying sharpening in post.
The sharpening of the EX1 seems to cause the jaggies visible around the JVC logo (we had a conversation about bad SD-quality, Detail=on is evil for resizing).
regards Dennis
Joel Klein February 26th, 2008, 03:20 PM detail was off!
i did a 10% sharpen in compressor
you said clean but oversharpened, i dont see it thet way
David Hadden February 26th, 2008, 03:34 PM I would never have been able to get such good looking images of his face with my DVX w/o some kind of fill light. This is the camera for me, but I think I'm waiting till after NAB to buy ( assuming I can convince my newly pregnant wife and not so silent business partner to not use the money for baby things that we can get from my sisters who want to get rid of their baby things now that they're done :) ).

Sean Seah March 7th, 2008, 04:16 AM Hi. How do u manage the lack of memory issue? I think the SxS last a tag to short right? U have a on site laptop to do the transfer I guess?

Sure, the ex1 can produce an image many sd cams can only dream of but in what way would a pd170 scr*w up the lighting condition in a scene like that, have you ever work with one? I have a vx2100 and know for sure that it can handle a low light scene like that without any problem.
Uli Mors March 7th, 2008, 04:38 AM Hi,
I use VX2000 for weddings , too.
There are REALLY BAD lowlight situations (DJ has only one or two lights that even dont light the whole dancefloor - and rest of the room is candle light illumination...). VX2000 makes it reasonably well... I am SO curious how the EX1 would keep up with that...

Joel Klein March 8th, 2008, 10:48 PM i know pd170 is best for low light, the ex1 is even better and cleaner at low light, but my posted demo focus on a different issu, the issu about CCD when pointing at direct light bulbs! the ex1 capture the entire frame perfect! the lights are there, the shadow is there, and the dark is there too, in other word, in my demo, there are many different lightings, and no storng light is taiking over.

where do you fins the sharpness parameter, do you mean sharpen edge (0-100) under the filters tab of compressor settings?
Joel Klein March 9th, 2008, 04:53 PM Yes sir! And that little trick a learned from one the Thread's at this forum, I forgot the name. I can spend some time searching it if needed, that Thread is a good to know for a ex1 user

herre is a 'cut' fom the above thread about adding sharpnes:
...Right... last week I got to play with an EX-1 and on Saturday I worked on a way to make downconverted footage look as good as a high end DSR-450 with a lens that cost $18k.
The SD sequence in FCP needed to be set to progressive by selecting the Sequence Properties and setting field dominance to 'none' in the first tab. In the second tab, set everything to render in extended 10 bit, best quality rescale (in other words, turn everything up to '11'). Finally, apply a 10% sharpen to the whole sequence (assuming you've turned detail off whilst shooting). That adds the zing and makes the built in lens look like a $12000 lens when downconverted.
Just dumping EX-1 footage into a raw DV timeline was distinctly 'bleah'. The above method sat well with DSR-450 material that was being sent to me. I'm sold on it.
