Thanks for looking everyone, but we now have someone that is able to help out!

Hi Everyone,

Well I've kinda hit a wall with two video shoots I have booked this coming fall/winter. I shoot stills and jumped into video last year. I am no longer booking video and only have a few left for this year. I have a friend helping with most of them but I am really stuck with two of them.

Yikes! Those things are rough. I can't imagine doing one just for practice. Once or twice a year seems to be about my limit for those.

The plan is to do a simulation of the rules of the real 48 Hour Film project: Friday night we will draw a genre and have 48 hours to write, direct, film, edit and score the 4-7 minute short.
I present to you "The Food Police" (http://vimeo.com/6229903). h.264 encoding and uploading finished with four minutes to spare!

Prop: A newspaper
Line of dialog: "That was rude"
Character: Burns or Bertha McDonnell, gastroenterologist

Will be in Northampton, Ma. from Sept. 5th - 9th to visit with some family to begin gathering on tape a sense of family history.

Most will be informal yet some stories I want to have shared in a more interview format.

Could only fit basic camera equipment as carry-on the plane. Sadly don't trust baggage handling if I checked my light kit so it stays home.

Might someone in the forum live in western Massachusetts that has a basic light kit with softbox or at the least a light with a softbox could rent during my stay ?

Am dependable, very dependable when it comes to borrowed/rented gear and can provide professional references.

best,

Ken Beals

I will be doing some small shoots on my EX-3 in the Washington DC and NYC locations late September. These are small 2 minute Eulogies or 2 minute sound bytes from people who are very used to public speaking.
I am looking for a sound person to assist me - either recording outside the camera are running XLR cable into the Ex-3 is fine. I can provide audio equipment if required but it's not the best - I have Sennheiser Lavs - Audio Technica Condensers and Shotguns and a Rode Shotgun.
Please reply to this thread with contact info.

I used to work for a producer in Northampton when I lived there years ago, very nice lady name of Marion Judd. She had an Arri kit and I assume still does. Might try giving her a call at 413-585-5755 and tell I her I passed on her name.

We're organzing a meet-and-greet here in Charleston for film makers and crew who are interested in entering the National Film Challenge coming up in October. The goal is to help team leaders and crew find each other. The meet and greet is 21 Sept, 7:15 pm at the Terrace Hippodrome (http://www.terracetheater.org/SHOWTIMESTERRACEHIPPODROME.html) in downtown Charleston. The contest starts 23 October, so I want to be sure that teams have some time to pull everything together.

We've put together a small website with some details: http://www.spiral-arm.com/

I have an shoot booked in San Diego on Saturday, Sept. 26th.

We'll be following a group of school kids and their parents as they check out an educational outdoor camping program. The shoot will probably run mid morning to early afternoon. This is full day rate with meals provided and OT if and as required.

I'd like to hire one or two people to provide local grip/general production assistance to supplement my traveling team of three. Talent, producer and me as shooter/director. We'll shoot available light on busses and other natural light outdoor locations - and do interviews of parents and/or program staff.

I own all the gear I need, but if you're a skilled shooter or soundie with gear for rent so that I don't have to cart more stuff than necessary , I'm not opposed to that.

Email me with your skill set and rates. newvideo@fastq.com - put "SD Shoot" in header.

Thanks.

Bill Davis - NewVideo.

I'm shooting in Vienna, Austria in early October and I'm looking to rent something like the MicroDolly Hollywood. It doesn't have to be that exact model, the idea is something lightweight and quick/easy to setup and move. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I could find this in Vienna? I usually bring my own but the excess baggage fees are making it ridiculous. Thanks!!

Greetings and salutations,

I am looking to replace myself for a freelance wedding shoot on October 24th in Toronto. It is for another company.

Technically speaking you have:
A 3ccd or 3cmos camera (doesn't have to be HD)
A good tripod

It would be nice if you have:
A good wireless lav kit
A on camera light

But I can provide those things if need be.

Personally speaking you:
Are reliable and don't show up in sweatpants and a John Deere hat.
Shoot well exposed and in focus video.

This is a documentary style shoot where you're capturing the day as it unfolds. If you have shot cinematic weddings before then this is an easy shoot.

Please send an e-mail along to matthew@craggs.ca and include a link to something you have created.

Thanks :)

(Edit: I should also add that this is for an ever-expanding studio, so if you are looking for more work for 2010 and you do a solid job then the possibility for more work is there)

Hi all:

We are seeking four PAs for an ultra low budget dance film that shoots on Sunday, October 11th in Los Angeles. This project is strictly a self-funded labor of love with no sponsorship, underwriting or grants so all of the crew hired so far are working for a fraction of their normal day rate. Non union obviously, we will feed the crew well and you will get a copy of the finished video on DVD for your reel/resume. The project will ultimately be entered into dance film festivals. We have an talented world class dancer, great composed soundtrack and the finished film will be quite amazing.

Seeking experienced PAs for normal production PA work, plus running hazer/fog machine, moving equipment and lighting. Shooting at a stage/rehearsal hall near downtown LA on Sunday, October 11th with a possible extra day for prep/pre-light on Saturday, October 10th.

$75.00 per day flat and it will be a long day.

If you know any PAs who are interested, contact blfilms@mac.com E-mail only.

Thanks,

Dan

I've been a member of these forums for awhile and I've recently started a media school in Kenya called the East African Media Institute (EAMI). We are located in Nairobi, Kenya and train young people in TV/Film Production as well as Broadcast Journalism.

I'm an American but have been living in Kenya since 1996. The school is fairly new and we're looking for support to build it up and offer quality training to these young people, some of them who we are sponsoring and many who are not on economically sound footing.

As an Institution, we are trying to train journalists and filmmakers to address issues of social importance such as fighting tribalism (recount the 2008 violence), saving the environment, addressing economic inequality and host of other issues affecting people here.

I'm open to work with anyone who has the heart to lend a helping hand. It can be in the form of your time to mentor a few of these students by supervising (through email) as they work on their projects or you can even take a trip over here and collaborate with us on some interesting projects. Heck, you can even come over and teach! We also are in need of equipment so if anyone has a miniDV video camera or digital camera lying around, we could use it!

You can check out our website at East African Media Institute: International Standards in Media Training (http://www.eamikenya.com) or search for us on Facebook ("EAMI").

Although I'm working full-time in writing/development, we've been shooting a lot of demos for the cable networks and that prompted me to get quite a good sound package which happens to be really suitable for Red One or 5D shoots.

It's based on the Sound Devices 788T with the solid state hard drive option, and it can record 8 iso tracks as well as four mixed tracks, or just about any combination anyone would want. Feeding it are 5 to 7 wireless systems (depending on whether you want wireless hops to the camera) and a 416 boom mic with wind blimp, also a nice Petrol bag with a seriously comfortable Portabrace memory foam harness. Also have an 816 in a blimp.

Four of the mics are Sanken COS 11's and three are Countryman EMW units. Two of the wireless systems are Lectrosonics and four are Senn G-3's. One is my venerable AT-100 fed by a Countryman. I use two G-3's for hops when I shoot, but since there is wireless timecode sync and a way to genlock the recorder with the camera, you might just as well record everything to the CF card if you wish.

There is much more hardware than the above, such as a soundcart set-up with a JVD 24" 1080P professional monitor and a Mackie. I can generally include myself in the package whether as mixer, boom or third -- or not. This thing is surprisingly easy to operate though, as intuitive as any component might be.

Comes with 3 IDX NP-1 70 watt/hour batteries and a charger, as well as batts and chargers for everything else.

Call or e-mail me, I promise you I will be your most cost effective and easy solution to the issue of getting superb audio for your next shoot, in fact I'll surprise you with my pricing since I have a full time job and am really just looking to amortize this gear, not support the wife and kids.

Oh yeah, I also have an EX-3 with good Cartoni sticks, 4 solar spectrum lights and much more.

I'm looking for a sound designer and composer to establish a working relationship with. I occasionally shoot short films (usually 1-5 minutes), and while I can hack through preproduction and most production duties, I can't design sound or compose scores at all. Sound is, of course, at least 51% of good video, and while I'm fine with mucking around teaching myself lighting and cinematography and editing and VFX, I would rather leave sound to someone who knows what they're doing.

A little about me: my skill level is somewhere around intermediate. I don't make films full-time or on any regular basis (rather, when I get enough time and have enough creativity). I don't have any intentions to distribute my work farther than Vimeo, and I certainly don't intend to make any money from it.

I would like to find someone with whom I could collaborate over the next several projects. Location is not an issue; I'm currently in Iraq and will be moving all over the continental United States over the next two years (job-related reasons) - so I'm not looking for any specific locale. Unfortunately I cannot offer riches, fame, or a path to Hollywood; however, I believe in compensating people for their talent and hard work even if I will not see a dime from the project. (It's the ethics of the situation; my crew gets paid before anyone else.) Gear is not an issue either; I shoot with DSLRs myself, not Varicams or RED, and the results are what matter, not the gear or the workflow.

It's a long shot, but if anyone on this board wants to partner up and make some short films every so often, please let me know.

Thanks!

Daniel Bates

Daniel,

I'm very interested in working with you on your projects. But I'd like to know more details of what sort of videos you're working on or plan to work on.

Do you shoot strict narrative pieces or are they conceptual/art videos? Does the necessary sound design include ADR/Foley or simply doing finishing mixes?

As for me, you can find a few samples of music I've done at <http://www.artinmilwaukee.com/profile.jsp?id=11>. I have experience working remotely so I'm comfortable in that sort of relationship.

I've recently become part of a mentor/mentee program as a sound designer & composer, working with someone who has a GREAT deal of talent and decades of experience. I think it would be enjoyable for both of us if I started working with your projects as an outlet for part of the mentee work I'll be doing for the next 10-12 months.

Let me know what you think and if you're interested as well we can take our conversation into private email.

Best,
Steven

I might need to rent an HMC40 in a day of a weekend and I wondering if theirs anybody in Massachusetts that has one. I mostly use public transportation so I’m not able to meet you in the middle of nowhere in which a car is needed. Basically I’ll get the camera back to you on the same day and you can always go to the shooting location (It's usually events) with the camera and wait until up to 2 hours. This way you’ll get it back even quicker.

What would you charge for that?
