I know there is already a thread going in the HV20 section but I wanted to get A1 specific opinions on this one

I have been contemplating getting the HV20 as a second 'b' camera and deck that doubles as a more portable solution for vacation, physically riskier shots, etc.

with the hv30 out in a month do you think it's worth waiting to get that for the added 30p option or get the hv20 at a cheaper price? (possibly even cheaper once the hv30 hits the market in March)

I will plan to mix the footage with the A1 at some point but mainly shoot 24p at the moment.

There is also mention of a slightly better zoom, focus control - but it's unclear exactly how it's been approved.

Also, in my checking around I was suprised to find there is a little DIY adaptor for $200 being made for the hv20. Not sure if any HV20/A1 owners have tried it.

Any thoughts would be great.

Only you can answer the question about waiting for your individual case. In general, if you can afford to wait, then it is better to wait until you really need it for some capability it provides. E.g., do you really need B-roll today, or can it wait a couple months, when is the vacation during which you want to use it.? Baring more strange things happening to the $$$, prices on technology tend to drop over time and/or you get more capability for your buck.

Lets assume you can save $200 by waiting, than you would have to get at least $200 in additional revenue or real economic value by buying it now to make buy now a good decision.

I suspect that the HV30 maybe hard to find and the price will not drop much below list until the "gotta be first" buyers have had there fill, which may not be until summer.

I figure the hv30 will be high priced for the first bit as well.

Just wasn't sure if the 30p option was big enough of a bonus to wait and or pay much higher price than the hv20.

I, too, have been thinking about buying the HV20 and using it as a B camera and deck. But I really like shooting in 30F HDV on my XH-A1. Which the HV20 doesn't have, right? Has anyone mixed HDV footage from the two cameras in Final Cut?

Hey I'm thinking of getting a B cam too. Do anyone know where I can view footage taking by the HV10 or HV20? I might wait on the HV30 but don't know yet. Thanks.
