I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not. There will be a total eclipse of the sun on the title date. The footprint of the total eclipse runs across the northern reaches of the globe. In my case I'm just outside the footprint, I think we'll attempt to get some footage of the partial.
For those interested in such things this may not be to early to start your research.

Hello Jacques:
WAY up north is all relative. From Ann Arbor the footprint is indeed WAY up but if you already live WAY up north then the frootprint is a little further north LOL.
Over the next few months I'll see if I can work a deal to get a bit further north for a few days.
The crew at NASA must be happy the footprint crosses directly over the Mars Base on Devon Island

The crew at NASA must be happy the footprint crosses directly over the Mars Base on Devon IslandDefinitely. Last two summers I was supposed to go up to Haughton Crater and it fell through. Looks to be similar this year, but with totality passing right over Devon, I might push harder to get there! I've seen one total solar eclipse before (Germany, June 2000) so I can say that whoever is up North this summer will be in for a real treat (cloud cover allowing).

Not if you live in southeast Asia! There is life beyond our shores!

Good luck Pete I truly hope you make it this year, by August the bugs will be on the downward swing and the days and nights will be fairly warm.
If my plan works my work "day job" will put me just about directly on the center line of the total Eclipse foot print.
I remember a total as a kid growing up on the east coast of Canada, I can't remember the year but can remember my parents telling me over and over not to look without the eye protection they had provided me.
I have my fingers crossed that I can make my plan work.

It looks as though all those in Beijing in preparation for the Olympics will be in the footprint
