I'm sure people have seen this British TV series. It's a car review show called Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson and a few other goofballs.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to or successfully approximated the style they use for their outdoor photography. The sky often looks really contrasty, blue and dramatic. The greens come out really well. They often use a lot of vignetting. Actually it seems a whole lot of British television looks that way.

I'm trying to approximate their style with as little use of post production techniques as possible.

I found this posting where they talk a little about the style. They all seem to say that most probably the show was shot on Digibeta and in post Magic Bullet was involved.

Ah jeeze! I can not believe I didn't search for it first! I had figured there was a lot of magic bullet use.

Well, on one of the shows (season 6, I believe), Jeremy Clarkson, one of the presenters, in a film comments on how they get the 'look'. He holds up different filters to the camera lens and the look changes accordingly.

Also, as has been said, vignettes. are. golden.

Most of the series was filmed using coloured Graduated filters and basic vignette filters, especially for the outdoor car shoots during dull grey and overcast days, or when raining...which occurs very often in UK!
