Considering the recent announcement of Schoeps' price-increase, I may have to choose a different mic.

Particularly this one... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/532788-REG/Sennheiser_MKH_8050_MKH_8050_CMPCT_MDLR_SET_.html

I really love the size and weight of it, and it's been compared quite favourably to the CMC641 from what I've seen on message boards so far. I've heard a few recordings that sounded great to me, but I'm no audiophile so I can't really trust my own ears.

My concern is that most of what I read were from message boards for live music taping, and not for film work.

Does anyone plan to try out these new Sennheiser mics for film work?

I plan on ordering one of the cards and one of the hypers when my rental check from the feature I was on comes in (they are paying out very slowly).

I'm not sure if Scott posts here, but here's his impressions (I think he favoured the MKH50 before the 8000 came along):

Very intriguing, I have never seen or heard of this mic. It is amazingly small, wish I had requested one from Sennheiser when I had the MKH-50 and 60 for the article I wrote.

This mic could be a real advantage when space is tight.

I believe he mentioned he recently had one of these mics he was testing/playing with.

I'm looking at using one for boom and/or mic for car int., but I want to hear and play with it or talk to other sound friends (that have one) first before I buy it. I don't like to be the first at anything.

I'm happy to hear that Ty is testing these mics. If he can say it's in the same ballpark as the CMC641 in terms of quality this'll probably be my next mic purchase.

The price-increase on the CMC641 is too steep for me now.

You can hear a piano recording comparison between the MKH 40, MKH 8040 and Schoeps MK4 on this Gearslutz thread:
