View Full Version : Black edge at top in SD?

Not sure if this is a 'feature' or a 'flaw' - I'm looking at some Standard Def HVX200 footage (ingested via firewire from tape) and the top scan line is black, the third line is black or shows no chroma.

All the footage shows the same effect. Mind you, this is the first time I've ever received HVX200 DV in 50i. DV footage from the Z1 and PDX-10 on the same shoot don't exhibit this either.

HD footage from the same HVX camera is perfect, edge to edge. But 25p exhibits a black Line 1, but no problem at line 3.

Is this a 'feature' or a one-off camera fault?

Any input really apprecated - thanks!

Matt,

Before I test it out on mine - never used my tape option so far - only P2 card - just want to check ... you wrote HVX200. Are you sure you are using the right camera?

Reason - HVX200 is NTSC only. For UK or Singapore (where I am) - it should be PAL ... and that model should be HVX202.

If you are indeed using a HVX200 in SD, then the camera is recording in NTSC, not PAL. Hence, if you view a NTSC video on a PAL equipment, it might give rise to your problem as you describe.

If you record in HD - there is no such thing as PAL or NTSC.

Interesting - most UK shooters still refer to the PAL version as an HVX200. Thanks for the edification.

I am referring to a PAL HVX202.

Another thing - does this problem happen if you record in SD on P2 card? Or only on tape?
