I'm new to video, so hope this is not a dumb question.
My Canon DSLR 1DMkII's viewfinder is very clear and sharp. Looking through my HV20 viewfinder, compared to my DSLR's, is terrible and there are black diagonal lines across light areas. Yes, I have adjusted the diopter.
Is this typical, or something wrong, or do I have a wrong setting? The playback is fine, it is just the viewfinder image that looks like crap.

In your DSLR you are watching into the "real world" through lenses and a mirror. In you HV20 you are watching on a mini LCD screen (not your main flip LCD). Take a look at your cell phone screen, that's the same :-) but bigger.
The lines are coming from an activated exposure helpfunction of the camera. Switch it of in the menu and they are gone.

Thanks, I turned off the Zebra pattern and things look much better.
