The specs are very similar to the Aiptek A-HD camcorder and it’s also the same price. At least the screen is bigger on the DXG-566V.

~but will it be AVCHD or X.264 like Xacti- I'm hoping like Xacti (you can edit those files.)

I can't tell what the format is exactly. All I know for sure is that judging by the look of their web site, they're definitely targeting the YouTube crowd.

Vimeo encoding is vastly superior to youtube and the site does not have alot of the awful youtube subject matter. It also has an elegant user interface. Take a look at http://www.vimeo.com/460254

the DVH 595 actually looks like a quality low price product. I've seen similar models (in specs only) from Aiptek and their low cost does not indicate low quality. The videos appear clean and naturally sharp, with low artifacting, and the low light is brilliant. I may buy one of these DXG's (well one of the glass lens models at least) as a pocket cam for fluff stuff.

As pointed out this is the same specs as the Aiptek A-HD (same price too) just stuffed in a slightly different form factor. Very nice cam (I own a A-HD) if you keep the shots locked down with a tri-pod. If you start moving the cam the image gets soft very fast, with macro-blocking. But if the cam is stationary even exreeme movement in the frame isn't a problem. Great fun for the price but don't expect a HV20 killer.

PS- the A-HD also has analog input for capture, but I don't see this feature mentioned for this cam. A few other specs that are different are, 5X optical zoom (A-HD is fixed focus only with a simple macro/infinity switch). A slightly larger LCD with an astounding claimed rez of 960x240? I can't remember what the A-HD's is, but is sure the heck ain't that! And it uses a NP120 battery, while the A-HD uses a NP60 and gets 90min. NP120/60 are very low-cost batteries.

I can only assume that you get what you pay for, but it sure would be nice to be pleasantly surprised. I would warmly welcome an objective review from a DV Info net member who has actually bought and used one of these camcorders.

Might as well pick up either the Aiptek A-HD+ or the Action-HD. They record to 1280x720 30p just like the DXG-569V but you also get 1280x720 60p and 1440x1080 30p. The A-HD+ is currently available for $170 at Best Buy and the Action-HD will fetch you $200 at WalMart. Biggest difference is a 3x optical zoom and auto focusing on the Action-HD. These companies will have to sell their camcorders for no more than $100 to $130 if they intend on competing against Aiptek.

You’ll find a ton of A-HD+ photo and video samples on my Blog.
I’ve already started a thread: http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=120067

Chris Hurd,

Do you think we can have a section that says something like this?
All other consumer HD camcorders.

Does anybody know where you can buy the 566v? I can't seem to find anybody who is actually selling it.

They finally have a camcorder that might be better valued than Aiptek’s although not as pocketable. On the print catalog, it claims 720p but I’m not sure if that also include 60p.

It’s not out yet.

B&H also sells the DXG-567V and the DXG-569V-HD.

I think the Aiptek Action HD is a better purchase as it's the same price ($199) but does both 1080P & 720P (30P & 60P)....

The DXG DXG-595V
____________________
3” LCD screen
5x Optical zoom
1920x1080 30p
1280x720 30p and maybe 60p

Aiptek Action HD
____________________
2.4” LCD screen
3x Optical zoom
1440x1080 30p
1280x720 30p and 60p

If the DXG-595V has 60p which isn’t known yet, it can be a tossup. If you want greater zoom, higher 1080 resolution and a bigger screen, you pick the DXG-595V. If you want a 2” macro mode and possibly more portability you pick the Action HD.

Its good that their aggressively competing against each other.

The 60P is the big question!!!

Anyone try this model yet?
How does the newer Aiptek 720p30 look against the older Go-HD- is it the same? Any improvements?

I’ve been wanting to do an outdoor test with both the A-HD and the A-HD+ in my blog but didn’t because the A-HD been through a hailstorm when I was trying to get shots on top of a mountain in Sao Miguel, Azores. About an hour after the incident the picture quality of the A-HD look terribly but after several hours, the picture quality looked completely fine but I’m not sure if it’s 100%.

For the heck of it, I’ll probably do that test this Sunday.

I eagerly await your findings.......if the Action HD is noticeably better (sharper, better motion) I'll buy one ASAP.....til then I'll wait for your findings.
Thanks Paulo.

I just got the DXG-595V, at first glance it seemed really good, but i soon realised what i stupid design flaw it had. Whenever you use the zoom on the camera it cuts most of the audio out. So if you intend to need audio when you use the zoom feature this camera is completely useless. I wonder what could have compelled DXG to put such a stupid feature on the camera. I'd rather have the background noise from the zoom motor then no audio at all... Anyways, just know, don't buy the 595V, and i'd be wary of any other DXG products after this.
