Hello Everyone,

I am brand new to DVInfo (as a member). I have a consultant coming to my studio this week to review my methods and workflow. I'm shooting on a Z1 and plan to be on the EX1 as soon as they are in stock *sigh*. I would love to have some raw files right off the EX1 card to experiment with when the consultant is here, since this will be my eventual workflow.

Nothing fancy...just looking for data to play with, 5 to 10 sec chunks.

(I'm working in Final Cut) I am open to any and all suggestions.

Brad,

Thanks a bunch. I'm sure this has been covered, however, I haven't been able to figure out how to ingest those clips into FCP. I downloaded the viewer software and xfer software (neither of which seemed to do much).

Any pointers anyone?

Sorry Lathe.

Can't help there.

Don't have a Mac...yet! :)

If you've downloaded and installed the transfer utility, there should be an option for XDCAM under FILE/IMPORT.

Download the clip to your desktop. When the import dialog box opens up, point it to you desktop and it should find the clip, then hit import.

You might want to adjust your preferences under the import tab to choose a place where the media will be copied to. That's where the media will be copied and linked. After that, you don't need to MXF file anymore.

hope that helps.

Andrew,

It appears that I have to have an XD source to get this to work. The import option is grayed out. It's very possible I'm missing something obvious (but I don't think so).

Has anyone out there been able to ingest the files from someone elses EX1 for use in FCP?

Is there an XDCAM option in the FILE/IMPORT menu?

I assume there is since you're seeing the import button but it's not active.

Have you added the source where your MXF file is? If you downloaded the MXF to your desktop, you have to add the desktop to the source list. I think the add button is in the lowerleft of import dialogue.

Andrew,

Your process works but before he can "Import" he needs to "Add" the location on his system where the file is. Once this is done, then you can "Import"

Thanks a bunch for this. I needed this. Now the question is, once we have the footage FCP, how do we render back out a.mxf file that can be read on a PC?
