Editing HDV in FCP 6, here are the specs:

- regular HDV 1080/60i timeline
- Digital Cinema desktop preview on 2nd monitor
- system is 2x3GHz Quad-core Intel xeon, 5GB RAM, display card is ATI Radeon X1900 XT

After an hour or two editing, with only a few sequences open, the preview screen will go white, then the image comes back, and then the preview screen goes all red with white text: "OUT OF MEMORY"

Anyone experienced this?

thanks for any info,

I experience this all the time. So far the only thing I have done to fix it has been to restart.

I only get this when I'm using media in the timeline that's a "no-no"

mpegs? mp3s?

Anything that's not on the Quicktime shortlist will do it usually.

Yes, I re-start FCP until it does it again, usually after a few hours.

Does straight-up 60i HDV qualify as a "no-no"?

Of course not.

But you can say with absolute certainty that's the only type of media in your project? No stills? Just making sure.

I've also had the problem with plug-ins not updated for the current version of FCP running.

Just HDV. No stills, mp3s or anything else. Couple TIFFs in the browser but nothing on the timeline but straight-up HDV.

Interesting about the plug-ins, not using any yet. Thanks for sharing the info.
