View Full Version : JVC GZHD7 New Video Clips!
Kaushik Parmar January 17th, 2009, 12:18 PM Kaushik, sorry to dissapoint you but none of your clips you uploaded to YouTube remained at 1080p (1920x1080) resolution. All have been re-encoded to 720p (1280x720) at 2Mbits/sec (as usuall) (except the Kankaria lake which is 1280x702 -by some mistake I guess) and all with the following header:
"Title: (C) 2007 Google Inc. v08.13.2007."
The visual quality you see is very good -I'm glad you managed it, but they are not the originals you uploaded -never are.
To be able to check all the encoding parameters of your clips, download Mediainfo (free) from MediaInfo (http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/) Install it and choose View->Html or Tree.
You can check them after you download them (or any video on your HDD). I personally download clips from Youtube using Firefox, having installed the "Internet Download Manager" -it provides me a "Download This Video" button above each YouTube clip with all versions available.
Another thing I noticed watching the Kankaria Lake, is that there is a frame skipping every 10 frames. You obviously do someting wrong in your video workflow that causes this frame skipping and makes the motion not completely smooth.
This is not too bad, you can break your clips to 10 minute interesting parts. The 1GB limit refers to the size of the uploaded video(s) not the final one you watch (that have been re-encoded) from YouTube.
Yes, it is downconverted into 1280p. But good clarity!
And I do not undertand your coment on "frame skipping every 10 frames", can you please explaine me?
And very soon youtube will alloe us to upload more than 10 minuts video, I am sure!
Thanks
Steve Mullen January 17th, 2009, 01:12 PM "The biggest advantage for all NTSC or >25 fps camcorders is that YouTube accepts up to 30fps while Vimeo up to 25. So in that case (as your camcorder records at 29.97fps), in Vimeo the video will stutter, while on YouTube it will be smooth!"
That is a real problem for Vimeo.
But, why do folks use UTube? ExposureRoom.com is a far more sophisticated group of filmmakers and supports up to 720p30. It has a very sophisticated look that "frames" your work in a positive way.
Ken Johnes January 17th, 2009, 07:59 PM And I do not undertand your coment on "frame skipping every 10 frames", can you please explaine me?
Well, it seems that it happens only on the first scene of "Kankaria Lake" HD clip, with the birds flying. To watch it more closely yourself, open the "Kankaria.mp4" clip with a compatible player that can go frame-by-frame eg the "Media Player Classic" (free) with the latest FFShow (free) or CoreAVC (commercial) codec installed, go to 20" and pause the video. Then use the Right-Arrow of your keyboard to advance the frames slowly while watching one of the birds flying. You'll notice that exactly every 10 frames, one frame is missed (the bird jumps two frames ahead instead of one).

Two reasons:
1. Millions of possible viewers (it depends though).
2. Almost everybody is familiar with YouTube, even if not for so serious reasons.
If you tell someone he can find your video on YouTube, he will understand immediately where and how to look for it.
If you tell him "go to ExposureRoom.com" he will say "What?" "how do you spell that" etc and until he finds the time to visit the website, he will most likely have it forgotten.
I agree that a more professional look matters, especially in some cases where you've done some serious work and you're addressing other professionals.
(IMO YouTube should be capable to serve that purpose too, probably in a separate, professional section.)
But if you seek to impress (advertise etc) the general public, most of all, you need access to the masses... and last week's websites (so to speak), can't offer you that access.
BTW, a few minutes ago I visited ExposureRoom.com to check it out and saw the following message:
"Uploads Are Back!
You can once again upload your videos, photos and music! Read more... "
This proves the rule... but it's not the exception! (reliabilty issues..)
Another thing: Despite the many funny/stupid or whatever videos found on YouTube, you can find helpful and valuable stuf there, if you look for it.
For example, yesterday I had the idea to search for "Drum lessons" (because I practice on my spare time) and soon I found *many* free lessons that can really help me progress much faster. Of course, most of their creators, promote a product, a service etc, but they all know that to gain something, they have to give out something first.
So we get free training videos, have the chance to learn about them and evaluate them or their products and they sell more products -everybody wins!
Not to mention that "we" might actually be the producers of such videos!
*Note: I don't work for YouTube! :)

May be Video Editing software gives me trouble! And this thing you noticed in my all videos or perticular video only? Did you noticed any other videos?
Kaushik
Ken Johnes January 18th, 2009, 02:10 PM Just on that scene on the kankaria lake video, but since that video has many scenes, I can't say for certain that it isn't repeated on some other scenes. It is easy to spot only when the subject and/or the camera moves steadily.
If you're not sure about your settings and whether you have this problem or not, you could make a short test clip with the camera on tripod, capturing some object that eg rotates very steadily -even manually. After processing the test clip through the whole workflow, you could test it frame-by-frame at playback to see if there are any frames skipped. If so, you could try to find the wrong settings and/or conflicting parameters.

I agree there are great things on Utube, but the noise level is so high they seem to be lost. IF you think of searching you are OK. But, I just don't think of it. Of course, if Google searched it -- that would be nice. For example, if you typed in "deinterlace" and got links to examples, lessons, etc. on various sites -- it would be a big help. The best things I found by accident.
I have just discovered that Apple's MobilMe not only allows HD it does NOT re-compress your video into Flash. So if you shoot h.264 and export your edit as h.264 you can upload that file and folks can see it as streamed h.264. That's second generation video!
And, if folks have a Western Digital Media Player ($100) they can copy the downloaded h.264 file to a USB stick -- insert this in the Player -- and feed the signal via HDMI to their HDTV. Still second generation video! (Unlike AppleTV, you can have 720p30!)
Flash is supposed to support h.264 but the services seem to want to control things by forcing recompression.
I guess the question is -- do you care if folks watch your videos. For me -- not really. Other than ego -- does it matter if 5000 or 500 have seen my "New Kitty" video. Of course, if I were paid it would make a big difference!
If I provide a link to a site -- then the site's popularity doesn't matter. Only the player.
Clearly Flash is more popular than QT. But, if QT delivers higher quality -- maybe that is really more important.
Plus, MobileMe let's me provide supporting photos and text. See this link:
So what?s with imovie and QT. (http://web.mac.com/gartside1104/ATV/IM09.html)
So does ExposureRoom -- they are trying to get folks to share music that can be used by other people in their videos. Very nice because some sites are removing video with copyrighted music.
Of course, if you have the time you can use multiple.
Kaushik Parmar February 15th, 2009, 11:06 PM Hello,
I have captured some music discussion moments last week, this is about one of India's all time greatest music composer, R. D. Burman. We have RD fan club in our city and we met last weekend had discussion about his music and one person was playing his tune with his instrument. Maybe this would be interesting for someone who are in interested in music! The discussion was in our regional Hindi language I apologizes for that, but music has no language bar and people will understand all it!

Colin Pritchett March 29th, 2009, 08:52 AM I just purchased a HD7 (should have it next week) and have been reading the conversations in this thread about the various hosting sites and the frame rates/resolutions that they convert to. My question is about Blip.tv, I use them and have been happy with the quality of the video.
If you dont mind please check out the couple of little vids I have up and give me your opinions. Mind that these are not HD, I shot these with a GL2/DVX-100A/XL1s, and am very excited to shoot in HD, although I wish it were a HVX-200 but since I am not making money with my camera I cant justify such a nice camera right now so the HD7 will have to do :)

Paulo Teixeira March 29th, 2009, 08:53 PM I’ve seen most of your videos including this one and it reminds me that I really do need to go to India one day but I really don’t know when. Theirs other countries I want to visit as well.
I’ve gotten my Associates degree in TV Broadcasting back in 2005 and I ended up taking loans because I couldn’t use the whole amount of my GI Bill unless I’m in college for 36 months. Now with the increase in benefits that should have happened a long time ago, I may actually go back in May and get a Bachelors since I don’t even have a permanent job at the moment and it will make my resume look a little better. Still, I would have preferred to use the rest of my GI Bill to pay off my loans and buy myself a new camcorder since I haven’t bought a good one ever since the HC1. That would definitely turn my life around but it’s too bad I’m not allowed to do that.
So basically it’ll take me a while until I get a chance to go their and I have a good idea on doing a documentary on India. I hope it wont be too long because the country you want to visit today may not be the same county in the future. That’s my advise to anyone who plan on traveling to different countries.

Congratulation! On your purchase of HD7. And I am sure you will love it, how much you pay for it? I am proud owner of HD7 since last two years! I have gone through your given link, but I advise you to upload your video on vimeo, and even now I advise you to upload them in YouTube, since they are now allowing HD videos up to 1GB (10Mins). Vimeo only allow one time 500MB and only 1 HD movie in one week! So YouTube is better to use, file up to 1GB, and no limit of HD videos, you can upload so many.

Kaushik Parmar January 16th, 2010, 02:36 AM Hello,
I have today created video on Kite Festival in my city, Ahmedabad. If some one would like to see below is link:
International Kite Festival 2010, Ahmedabad on Vimeo
And if some one would like to know about more on Kites Festival in Ahmedabad:
14th January is very special day for Ahmedabad & its state Gujarat. All people flyes kites this day, prepration starts a week or two ago. Last tow days are very busy, people got to buy kites and related accesories. Makers of threads come from the different part of the country, and start making threads before months or two, they make on roadside.
Although the Kite Festival is celebrated all over Gujarat, it is the most exciting in the capital city of Ahmedabad. The night before is electric with brisk business in buying and selling kites, in amazingly numerous bulk purchases. The Patang Bazaar (kite market), situated in the heart of Ahmedabad city, is open 24 hours a day during the Uttarayan week. A visit to the Bazaar in the middle of the night proves beyond all doubt that the entire population of the city is obsessed with kites and they crowd the streets and buy the stocks while negotiating and enjoying through the night.
And the excitement continues even after dark. The nights see the arrival of the illuminated box kites, often in a series strung on one line, to be launched into the sky. Known as tukkals, these kites add a touch of splendor to the dark sky. What's more, the day is marked with the traditional food/delicacy festival of Gujarat like the undhiyu (a delicacy of vegetables), jalebi (sweets), til ladoo (sweets made of sesame seeds) and chikki for the guests from different parts of world.

Kaushik Parmar March 1st, 2010, 08:30 PM Holi Festival:
One of the major festivals of India, Holi is celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety on the full moon day in the month of Phalgun which is the month of March as per the Gregorian calendar.
Holi festival may be celebrated with various names and people of different states might be following different traditions. But, what makes Holi so unique and special is the spirit of it which remains the same throughout the country and even across the globe, wherever it is celebrated.
Preparations:
Entire country wears a festive look when it is time for Holi celebration. Market places get abuzz with activity as frenzied shoppers start making preparations for the festival. Heaps of various hues of gulal and abeer can be seen on the roadside days before the festival. Pichkaris in innovative and modern design too come up every year to lure the children who wish to collect them as Holi memorabilia and of course, to drench everybody in the town.
Play of Colors:
Great excitement can be seen in people on the day when it is actually the time for the play of colours. Shops and offices remain closed for the day and people get all the time to get crazy and whacky. Bright colours of gulal and abeer fill the air and people take turns in pouring colour water over each other. Children take special delight in spraying colours on one another with their pichkaris and throwing water balloons and passers by. Women and senior citizen form groups called tolis and move in colonies - applying colours and exchanging greetings. Songs, dance on the rhythm of dholak and mouthwatering Holi delicacies are the other highlights of the day.

About this video:
This video is about one place in Ahmedabad called "Gulbai Tekra" which is famous for Lord Ganesha Idols.
Gulbai Tekra is not only famous for its finely carved statues of the Hindu god, but attracts customers from states like Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as well. Hundreds of trucks carrying mould from here are dispatched to other states every year.
The annual Ganesh festival is celebrated with much fervour across Gujarat State.
With the Ganesh festival beginning Wednesday, there is a wide variety of idols available in the market. The price depends upon the size of the idols and can cost up to INR.12,000 ( approx USD 300) for the bigger ones.
Traditionally, idols are made with natural ingredients like mud, clay and vegetable-based dyes. But commercialisation has led to bigger and brighter idols made of plaster of paris and toxic chemical dyes flooding the market over recent years.

John Nantz October 28th, 2010, 01:20 PM Those were a couple really nice videos Kaushik. I've got a bunch of comments and questions:
What are the green & yellow three-wheelers? Taxis?
The round-about in the first video was huge! How do all those drivers know where to go? I'm only accustomed to the single-lane round-abouts and can't fathom how something like that would work here. I think we'd have so many accidents.
There was a very sad shot of an obviously very old man, hunchbacked, pushing something like a three-wheel bicycle along the shoulder of the freeway. The irony was there were young people passing him on their motorcycles. I really felt sorry for him. He is human and nobody seems to care.
There were a lot of candid shots where people didn't seem to notice they were being photographed, except in one scene where a young boy was obviously watching what you were doing. That was neat.
In the music I thought I could hear what sounded like a banjo.
The evening shots at the waterfront with the colored lights came out good.
Tried to tell if the engine of the train was steam or powered by something else. Since it looked so brand new and there was never any smoke coming out of the stack it must have been gas or diesel.
There were so many more comments I wanted to make but now I forgot the rest...
Thanks for sharing.

John Nantz,
I am glad you like these videos, and it is always good to see other country's videos it shows culture, lifestyle architecture and many more.
I will try to give answers of your questions.
Yes, that three three wheeler is kind of small taxi, three people can sit in it, it is cheaper than big taxi.
Yes, that round was very big and it is now no more, one big over bridge is being constructed!
Yes, you will find so many old people on the street with that kind of bicycle, they are actually delivery man, they make deliveries of goods and earn money, it is very hard for them and if the person is old! The person in video was old and so much tired, and more over he was facing front of over bridge which was very tough! Yes, it is routine so people do not bother to help them, its their routine life. But I understand your pain and you are right it would be good if people at least give some support him while he was facing front of over bridge!
You are right people were not aware about camera, and I am not sure which small boy you are talking. But if you make videos outside candid kinds of images would be there, what do you think?
Yes, evening shots came out good. Yes train was brand new from England, and one more included last week!
Good to see your curiosity.
BTW where you from? Do you have HD7?
Thanks for your all comments.
John Nantz January 1st, 2011, 12:53 AM I've been away for awhile because everything is so busy. However, I'm still trying to deal with camera and video editing issues.
I've got a second JVC video camera which is a GZ-MS130BU model. Bought it used for the battery charger to go with the HD7 because it was cheaper than buying just the battery charger new. This is an inexpensive HD camera that is slightly newer than the HD7 and which I would categorize as a "point-and-shoot" type. One of those cheapies that can "One Touch Upload to YouTube".
The good news about it is the files are *.mov which is easy to edit with iMovie '09. It goes really fast and I can burn to a DVD quickly. The bad news is the video is the video quality is less that I'd like, especially in the sharpness department.
Another plus, though, is it is really easy to get really quick-and-dirty shots. No place for mic input. I've taken quite a bit of family video using this while the HD7 has been "on hold", so to speak.
The HD7 had a blank (black) screen for awhile but thanks to the JVC Help Desk guy we got it functioning again. Apparently I had switched over to the external memory without having media inserted - or something like that. Anyway, it's fully functioning now. The big problem I'm having is getting the files edited in iMovie HD6. The last time I tried this was a couple months back so I've forgotten what the problems were but I'm ready to jump back into it again.
Where do I live: in the Seattle, USA, area.

John Nantz January 19th, 2011, 03:00 PM Looks like you've been busy with the camera! And, of course, editing.
I can't remember all the things that I wanted to note, but here's a few comments. The one with the dogs was interesting because of the lead-in with the squares. Dogs, and pets, are always good subjects and this is attested to by the frequency they're being used in advertisements.
One of the techniques that really made the video interesting was getting right down low and taking the picture face-to-face with the dog, and, up close and personal. In at least one case you were actually looking up at the dog's face which made the dog look so regal.
A side note: I like the name of the dog food called "Drool".
The choice of music on "The Reception" was good. In all, some very interesting videos.
As for my part, I haven't done a single edit for some time. Still trying to figure out a good workflow. Plus I've got other issues like the computer is pretty filled up, so I need to do some file shuffling.
