Hi all,
Living almost on top of the globe gives you some amazing lights this time of year as the sun is very low on the horizon even at daytime.

Last Sunday the weather turn out to be good and I started out before dawn trying to make some winter mood footage. A tiny moon appeard on the night sky enhanching the spare light at dawn.

http://www.video-film.no/bilder/winter-mood.jpg

All footage is shoot with Canon XLH1 1080/50i, lenses used - 20x and 6x HD lens.
All footage shoot with a polarization filter and in direct sun footage, ND is set to 1/6 and 1/32 to get appropriate exposure.
I've used the score Birch Hill from SmartSound to substantiate the beautiful mood it was out there!

Link to the film:

Please save to your local computer before viewing!

Hopefully the quality is good enough in this compressed file to give you an impression of how this looks on my 39" HD-TV - amazing!

Appreciate any feedback!
Enjoy!

Beautiful images Per. Really stunning lighting conditions as you say. I can't help feeling a lot of them felt like stills though, some of those shots would have be great with the some Norwegian back country jib treatment!

Mat, yes you're right and you're almost reading my mind too!
When I came back from that trip I realized soon that they are pretty much like stills and some motion would be nice, so I've decided to go back to this beautiful place with my jib next time the weather is suitable, stay tuned Mat... ...and thanks for your comment!

Beautiful shots Per, I must agree with Mat regarding some of the shots were a little too still and needed a timelapse effect or jib.

Personally I feel the first tilt up shot (after the fade to black) you could have afforded to allow the shot to go on longer and then dissolved out. But I loved the mood - Congratulations

Yes, I agree. I tried but the clip seem to be too long (too slow tilt), of course I could have speeded it in post.

Good to hear your comments to this. I will be back to get more footage in that area later. Maybe we could do a cooperative edit on this in the end. I throw in some edit samples and you are telling me what you like and not?

Anyway, this short clip will be aired on NRK (Norwegian Broadcast Company) tonight, they was very happy with it!

Congratulations with finally getting your films on NRK, Per Johan!
It's nice when they recognize the great films you produce.

Trond if you are watching Nine o'clock news (2100) at NRK it maybe be screened at "Norge idag"

Hey Per what was it used for, what was the context?

Per Johan Naesje
December 3rd, 2007, 03:16 PM
Mat, it was used to show the citizen of Oslo, that some miles away from the fog that was covering the capital the entire weekend, you could experience almost a fairytale in light and view!
Screened as the last feature before the weather forcast.

I've already got some SMS with the text: Huhh... was it clear weather at THAT PLACE!

Congratulations on the TV broadcast. Do you have High Definition broadcasting or did you downconverted to SD ?

Per Johan Naesje

Had to downconvert to SD. Not sure when they plan to do any transition to HD broadcasting. I think that gonna be a very expensive transition!

I didn't get a chance to watch in when it was aired, but I watched the original on your website.

Well done! Awesome shots you have there.
Listen to Mat and Bob, they gave you some good feeback. I agree with them.

For those of you who want to actually view the film on NRK, here it is:

They did some editing between the first and last past, hmmm maybe that is a better transition than my original?

I would say that the one that NRK aired was tighter. In the original film from you website some of the shot was to static (just like Mat and Bob mention). I love the end shot, the shadows are really nice in that one, combined with the glitter from the snow.

Nice work…

Per,

The TV stations edit is a lot tighter on the static shots at the opening and personally I think it goes to make a better video. I also noticed that they deleted the tilt up shot that I commented on.

Forgetting about the edit, Congratulations on the beautiful shots and hope to see some more of your work during the winter.

Great stuff Per and even a name credit !

I agree it was interesting to see the alternate edit. It felt on the whole more mobile. Even just a moving branch somewhere does it!

The moving branch and some movment in the fog makes the feeling of a film and not a slideshow.

Per,

Congratulations on the broadcast slot, beautiful shots

we only get a few photos before the weather forecast, it would be nice to see our various Channels adopted something like this.

Snow looks rather lovely. I some times wish we had snow like that in my part of the UK,
better not, it’ll be the wrong kind of snow, and the country will close down for a week.

Congratulations PJ, with your broadcasting on the local TV station at Eastern Norway. Very well done!
I've been sending in to our local TV station - NRK More & Romsdal but they turn it down. But last year I was lucky to get a short from the flood on TV Sunnmore (TV Norge).

Per,

very nice mood piece and having the quarter moon definitely gives it a lot more than it would have been otherwise.

for myself, living where it it is windy all the time, seeing it so dead still makes it seem almost surreal!!!!

Very nice pans, so smooth and fluid!! I now it isn't just that wonderful arrow 50 you use. lots of skilled practice.

Composing the limbs in the foreground give it nice depth!!

I personally like low shots and the end was terrific.

Thanks for sharing.
