Not sure what I have done, but have done it twice now. I cannot change gain when in manual mode. I keep getting the message "cannot proceed". Last time I reset all settings and it was fine, but I don't want to do this again.

Any ideas?

Ditto for me I was messing with the settings and got the do not proceed error. I had to reset the settings.

Am wondering if there is a bug in the firmware here that needs fixing

Same here - for both the Gain and the White Balance switches.

Definite fault. Am sure it will be fixed soon.

try to adjust the on-screen options with a tape or battery warning up. It doesn't work.

Hey...we are the beta testers after all in a way! Do Sony read these forums at all?

How are you trying to change gain, Phil - by using the PRST-A-B switch or do you mean you can use the menus to set the values for the switch settings?

its using the hard switches. When it happens it affects the white balance switch too

Thanks, Phil. I just wanted to be on the watch for the same problem.

Others have posted about the manual gain setting switch and I have about the manual shutter switch sometimes leading to a "cannot proceed" message, requiring an "all reset" to restore normal operations.

Well, I just finished an experiment where I painstakingly changed one menu setting at a time away from the factory default settings. I didn't change every parameter, just the ones I had been changing to my preferences.

When I finally got down to "Direct Menu" and changed it from "Part" to "All" I started getting the "cannot proceed" warning when I operated either the shutter or gain switches. So, out came the manual and sure 'nuff there at the upper right of page 19 were the words "When the Direct mode is set to "All," tje GAIN, SHUTTER, and WHITE BAL switches are disabled."

Now, I'm a great believer in RTFM and I had studied the manual quite closely and I'd studied the manual for days before receiving my EX1 and I missed that statement completely.

Now that I understand what Direct Menu is and how it works since having the actual camera I can see the logic of this method of operation but I wish the preceding statement had been highlighted a little better.

"All is forgiven."

Thanks - That stumped me as well

If I was a Sony rep and did read this I would reply with a classic RTFM!

Maybe we don't want Sony to read all our post :)

Yeah.. had me for about 20 minutes tonight. Thanks GOD for the search function here!

But the error message itself is kind of creepy. 'Cannot Proceed' just plain sounds bad...

Same here... playing with the cam and suddenly "Cannot proceed". Thanx for the solution :)

Stupid message, there is enough room for: "Disabled when Direct menu = All" or someting like that.

Phil: Now this is solved can I wander a little and ask you if your are still using CINE4 for what you take into Magic Bullet or do you have more profiles working for you now?

Well Carroll, Unlike you, I have no patience so I called Sony tech support after about 2 minutes of trying to figure WTF was wrong! They put me on hold for about 5 minutes while they sorted things out and came back with the exact solution that you arrived at. YUP that was the problem. And yes, now I am reading the manual more as well. I am however impressed at your tenacity!
Best, Craig
