Hello all,
Wonder if you can help.
Here is my current situation. Shooting with Sony DSR F350 - great in good light but awful in low, truely awful.

Thinking about buying AJ-HDX900 (second hand). My wide angle canon sd lens J13 would work with it for the moment, as would my v lock batteries. So I should only need to get the camera body. Am happy with it being tape based. Think P2 cards are fiddely.

Question is, can I use Sony Vegas to edit its footage, I would plan to firewire the footage in from the camera and not use a deck (cant afford one!). Is anyone out there using it with Vegas as the moment? How are you managing?

I am based in the UK but would probably get the camera in the US, as with the current exchange rates, I think I could save a lot of money.
From my research, I think the camera looks amazing, really excited by the prospect of using it.

Your advice would as always be much appreciated!

The problem is -- how do you plan on getting the footage in? Vegas won't capture it, and there aren't any standalone capture applications either.

So you'd have to either use a Decklink type of card and capture via HD-SDI, which would work, or if you want to go firewire you'd probably need to get Adobe OnLocation (or, if you can find a copy still for sale, DV Rack 2.0 HD). DV Rack would give you everything you need, the ability to capture the footage from tape via firewire and the appropriate DVCPRO-HD codec to be able to edit in Vegas.

Thanks so much for taking the time out to help Barry. I'll look into those options.
I think going to this 2/3 inch HD camera is the way forward for me for a while. And I think you can pick them up for a decent price used. Do you use a HXD900?

I understand that DVCProHD codec is not available for "standalone" applications. Better check whether Vegas offer that option - because you won't be able to download anywhere.

No, I'm primarily on the HVX200 and HPX500, with a Red One due sometime next month.
