I'm new to videography and right now I'm working with Mini DV tapes and my Canon XL1. After dealing with some of the headaches of working with analog tapes (tapes going bad, fear of something happening to the tape between filming and transfer to computer) and just a general uneasiness of dealing with an analog technology, I'm wondering why I am even bothering with Mini DV when there are cameras that will record straight to an internal hard drive. It seems like that would be so much more reliable when transfering - no more worry of audio and video out of synch, or no audio at all etc. Seems many of these problems are due to Final Cut depending so much on time code on the analog tape when transfering from camera to computer. Any thoughts? Am I right to want to switch to a camera that records straight to an internal hard drive?

I'd say keep the xl1 and get a firestore for it
