Hi,

Ive got a project coming up where the DOP will be shooting on a RED. I noticed there is Beta support from cineform for the Beta program redcine to export into CFHD.

My question is...at this stage I only need to edit in 1080HD - so can I simply use Prospect HD and have redcine export to a 1920x1080 CFHD avi?

Or is Red support only for Prospect2k and the upcoming 4k app?

Also out of curiosity, given this and most other projects will be finalised at 1080 or lower, is there any need for me use Prospect 2k in terms of compositing or grading when dealing with footage originating from a Red source?

Thanks

Prospect HD will work fine. You can export directly to a 10-bit YUV file out form RedCine to CineForm codec. It will be MOV wrapped, which works only okay on some systems. Re-wrapping (very fast) MOVs to AVIs will be recommended for a while yet.

FYI : Prospect 2K, add 2048x2048 resolution for film work and 4:4:4 and 4:4:4:4 for effects work. Prospect 4K is Prospect 2K with an unlimited encode resolution.

Prospect 2K is likely the sweet spot for many Red users, as 444 is a nice addition, particularly for 4K down-scales. Prospect HD to Prospect 2K upgrade is now only $500.
