View Full Version : Good suggestion for a on camera XHA1 light.\?
Alex Lucas November 25th, 2007, 12:18 PM I like AB Ultraligts, and I like Frezzis, too.
However, when pricing them out, I get frustrated, and there is no suitable $200 light to be used with a XHA1 for the occasional 'Run 'n gun' moment that I am going to be needing with this camera.
So does anyone have a good, cheaper, perhaps one piece solution to a 10w to 20w light that could be used on the top of a XHA1?
Some suggestions out of the $500 range would be rather nice.
John Cusi November 27th, 2007, 10:33 PM Hi. I am in the same page as you are and have recently bought the AB Elightz kit from BHphotovideo. Much better than the ultralight and costs alot less. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Dave Robinson November 28th, 2007, 03:43 AM Hey I'm not sure if it's what you're after but about the PAG C6?
Jaron Berman November 28th, 2007, 02:42 PM well "good" and "on-camera light"....
but for cheap, there's the trusty Sony 2-lamp 10/20W system. With some diffusion taped to it, it'll do what it needs to do.

Vincent Rozenberg December 18th, 2007, 01:44 AM I still have the VL 10Li II from the old days with the XL 1. Fits on the A1 and works with the same batteries as the camera, which I find very convenient.

Jeff Mayne December 23rd, 2007, 10:16 PM Any one usse this light? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/389743-REG/Bescor_MPL313X_MPL_313X_DC_On_Camera.html
Any opinions?
Jeff Anselmo December 23rd, 2007, 10:51 PM Hi Jeff,
I haven't used that specific Bescor model, but use this one:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/457947-REG/Bescor_MPL645B_MPL_645B_On_Camera_Dimmer.html
and am quite satisfied with it. Use it with a small batt. pack (but never for longer than 30 minutes), and it works great.
I think an on-cam light with a dimmable knob is an awesome function.
Best,

what are people using to power these things? battery belts?
Jeff Mayne December 24th, 2007, 11:07 AM It has an XLR adaptor or you can use a battery pack or belt!
Meryem Ersoz December 24th, 2007, 11:40 AM it helps if you describe your particular application...flood, spot, daylight, studio. what are you doing with it?
but Litepanels (known for their quality lighting) is on the verge of releasing this...

i would be interested in knowing more about the throw, but since it's not yet in release, there's no way of knowing. i bet it will make a nice interview light, though....i'm thinking about one for my home movie cam.
Jeff Mayne December 24th, 2007, 02:20 PM I will be using the light for early morning shots at the hunter's cabin, truck, four wheeler, going to the woods, in the woods, filming pre and post hunt interviews in low light, tracking game in low light.
Jack Walker December 24th, 2007, 04:45 PM This light works well and has a wide/soft setting as well as a spot setting.
It takes standard Sony batteries on the back of it.
I saw it at a recent show and for the LED lights in this price range this seems to offer the most of what I've seen:

Meryem Ersoz December 24th, 2007, 05:01 PM that Sony is my current run n gun lighting set-up...
i shot this UWOL entry using it...

it's not the best for outdoors, in my experience, but in tightly contained indoors locations, especially if you have walls which can contain or bounce the light, it is great. outside, the throw was about 3 feet, it seemed, inside it gets more like 7 feet, maybe 8. it has a lot of light control with the barndoors and diffusors, which is nice...
