I had another look at your video Monarch of the New Forest, Good informative video the only change I would try if possible
is to darken or change the colour per sets a touch with a + on the reds.
I’m off to my video club now and watch a few films on the big screen.

I'm guessing your after critique as you've posted your film so I shall give you my thoughts.

A very nice complete 10 minute film with a good balance of great imagery and nice informative story all packaged very well within the running time. The narration was nicely written and your delivery was good too, it had interest and enthusiasm. The weakest aspect in my point of view was some of the editing, the cutting seamed snappy and un-ordered in places, however as I've said I think overall the piece was put together and flowed well. I also think the music you used in the fight sequence should have shown the drama of the event...it just felt a little soft for the sequence. You could also tell that was shot on a different camera, at least it certainly looked that way.

I really nice example of a well put together 10 minute short. I've written my first 10 minute short that I'm planning to shoot this year and this has been great to watch for inspiration so thanks. I shot a 3 minute short on the Red Deer about 8 weeks ago, I didn't manage a full rut sequence unfortunately but the deer are certainly a great spectacle even without it. http://www.uwolchallenge.com/challenge5/MDT_UC5_theoasis.mov - Let me know what you think.

Hi All,

Thank you all for commenting and taking the time to watch. Most of the film was shot with a Sony HVRV1E, the fight sequences were shot with a Digital8 a while back by a friend of mine. I spent about nine days in the New forest and have loads of Red Deer and Fallow Deer footage and of course cutaways and establishing shots etc.. There was only one evening that provided really good light, the rest of the time it was quite dull (although lucky in some ways as it didn't rain much).

Talking of light, the encoded wmv file has washed out some of the colour - the original looks much more vibrant on the TV. This is the second version, the first had heavy fast guitar music on the fight scene - but about half the people who watched it didn't like that aspect, so I changed it to the softer music. I haven't made up my mind on this as yet - I may ramp the fight scene up with a different track. I've made the film for people to watch so it really needs to appeal to a wider audience as possible, so now it's more BBC than Animal Planet.

I had to do tons of work on the sound as there was a lot of noise i.e. cars, dogs barking, airplanes, people etc.

I realise that it isn't perfect and everyone will see something that could be improved, but on the whole I'm quite happy with it.

I met some really nice people whilst filming in the New Forest and the deer themselves were a dream to see and pleasure to film - overall it was a great experience.

Thanks for posting, you already know my comments. Matt, I have had the benifit of viewing this direct from a DVD and can confirm that the colours are much more vivid than appears on the download.
