Is this good enough for HD from the EX1? And running VEGASPro8?

DDR2-800 is pretty standard, and incredibly cheap ($50-60 for 2 gigs )

I've never had Vegas use more than 2 gigs of memory, I think just raw processing power is all it really needs. That and fast harddrives for capturing.

New mother board $150 in US, ram $100, processor $250 is $500 total. For another $100 dollars you can buy a new computer, that will likely run perfectly.

I used to build my own....you cannot build and get quality for the low prices Dell, HP offer today.

After 10 years of dealing with cooling issues, compatibility problems, etc etc, I bought a workstation at Dell outlet...I will never build again.

Start looking at you total cost of parts and then visit Hp,Dell, etc and see what you can find...you and I cannot buy the parts as cheaply as they can.

Joe, Jeff . .I am upgrading my existing PC - or rather I am having the original builders of my PC upgrade it for me.

In it I already have all the necessary elements.

4 Drives, Sound, display, ACEDVio and so on. I just wanted them to make it more capable with HD.

I wouldn;t do the build nor the testing. And they should have better purchasing ability than I.

Yes, If I was starting from fresh, ok . . but I;ve already got the balance of the PC remaining. And, as I said, they will test and so on.

Intel Quad E6600 sounds like the best price to performance at the minute. The way things are going at the minute, it is getting so the most expensive part of any workstation is getting to be the case. Luckily, I saved a Thermaltake Xaser III case from being skipped just the other day, so I'm able to plow more funds into my computing power :)
