I just purchased your GZ-HD7 handbook and LOVE IT!! I have only skipped through it for now.

I have a few questions and still dont know the answer to them. My NLE is FCP 6.

1. What setup do I use in FLC 6?
2. I know that it is best to use MPEG streamclip and convert TOD files to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). What I do not know is what frame rate to use.

The 2 products I wish to export are a Playable DVD for TV on standard 4.7 DVD, and I would also like to export a internet/web version in 16:9.

Any suggestions?

The fastest way to use FCP 6 is to capture clips via FireWire. This is described in detail on pages 99 to 105. You must only shoot 1440CBR. You'll capture to HDV.

If you want to pull clips from the HD7's harddisk, follow the steps on pages 119 to 123. Now you can shoot FullHD. But, FCP only works in Real-Time wih 1440x1080 -- so as my eBook describes you'll down-scale in MPEG Streamclip.

The frame-rate is always 29.97.

1. What do you mean by "Real Time". So are you saying I can not export a final 16:9 product from FCP? Im lost,... After editing, I would like to export the movie in 16:9 internet/web compression and downscale to a 4:3 for TV DVD.

2. Does downscaling cause a loss to quality?

3. What do I use as an Easy Setup in FCP?

Real-time means editing without needing to render FX. Export is never real-time. Real-time is covered extensively in the FCP documentation.

If you are capturing using FireWire, then use HDV EZ setup. (page 103)

If you are using file import (page 123) , then you use the AIC EZ setup.

Using setups is decribed in the FCP documentation.

The export process is dependent on the application (DVDSP or iDVD) you use for burning DVD, so you'll need to read its documentation. Plus, of course the export section of the FCP manual.
