I am doing a little short with a friend ( he is not a actor) to test how I should light my letus fe/ Canon hx A1 combo indoors. I am mainly using (2) 500 watt softboxes . For the next interior shot I will add a 600 watt spot light with a dimmer for a hair light. I just want to know, which frames look better ( the ones with or the ones with out curve adjustment) ?

I like the ones on the right with the darker blacks.

Hi Paul. In general the adjusted pics are more vibrant, but beware of overdoing it. Looks lto me like some of the highlights are blown out a bit. (Might just be this laptop but worth checking.)

I have to agree that the crushed blacks look the best, but I have found that sometimes I get a little too carried away with color grading. Subtle is often the best, and I think you have successfully accomplished that in this case.
I vote the ones on the right. ;-)

Not a bad improvement, makes it a little easier to look at.
Bear in mind you can get this kind of look in-camera, before you go down to HDV compression/color space when it records to tape. Saving you some render time in post and maybe even getting a higher quality result.

I Like Extremes
I wouldn't call this extreme. I think it looks great! If I hadn't have seen the other images this one wouldn't stand out. I would still consider this somewhat of a subtle grade - if I were to write my own little book of definitions. :-P
