Looking for some suggestions for a quality replacement mic can substitute for the standard V1 mic (which I find too weak).

What do people suggest? Not looking to spend more than £200 ideally.

Is the Rode NTG2 good enough?

You may want to post this in the audio section of the website. Or at least do some research there, because there's already a ton of great advice there.

They'll also help you figure out whether a shotgun mic is the best mic to suit your needs. So when you post there, tell them what you'll be using it for. Personally, I prefer hypercardiods to shotguns as I'm recording indoors more often than I'm recording outdoors.

Since the V1 has phantom power you probably shouldn't get the NTG-2 which has space for a AA battery, and this makes the NTG-2 very bulky.

Get the NTG-1 which is much more compact unless you plan on also using it on cameras without phantom power such as the Canon HV20.

Rode makes great and very cost-effective mics, so the NTG-1 is a great choice.
