What's the best way to get diet coke off a camera lens, both coke that's wet and dried on? Thanks.
View Full Version : Best way to get diet coke off your lens? Matt Buys October 22nd, 2007, 09:10 PM What's the best way to get diet coke off a camera lens, both coke that's wet and dried on? Thanks. Greg Boston October 22nd, 2007, 09:24 PM The good news is that diet coke won't get all sticky like normal sugar would. If the coke is on the lens element, use a soft cloth, dampened with warm water. I'd say the same holds for the lens barrel as well. -gb- Matt Buys October 22nd, 2007, 09:28 PM Greg, I didn't realize sugar would make a difference. I should have added there's also a little ginger ale and maybe pepsi on the lens too. Does sugar damage the lens? It's not the end of the world. Just the wide-angle adaptor to my HV20 which was already scratched. Still, don't want to make it worse than it is. Does the warm cloth with water still hold if sugar is involved? I luckily didn't get splashed, but that's why I put a $20 UV filter on my HV20 - not to get a better picture, but mostly to protect the lens. Not that I know what an EepyBird is, but I gotta say, I'm really curious how you could get Diet Coke, Ginger Ale, and Pepsi on a camera all at the same time... Hope you get it all off okay with no damage. Dylan Couper October 22nd, 2007, 11:44 PM What's the best way to get diet coke off a camera lens, both coke that's wet and dried on? Thanks. The safest way to get it off without scratching anything is to lick it off. Your tongue is as non-abrasive as it gets. Plus... yum! Matt Buys October 23rd, 2007, 08:02 AM Thanks for the tongue idea, I'll try it. I'm a big fan of eepybird. But the soft drinks on the lens are from something a little less exciting. We had several cases of leftovers from a party at our house (tax dollars at work). We don't let our kids drink much soda so they asked if they could have some batting practice with them and they would shake them up and bam . . . so I started filming. Have to admit I took a few swings too. We're going to have a neighborhood short called the Coke vs Diet Coke challenge. Kevin Randolph October 23rd, 2007, 11:38 AM Best of luck with the lens... I hope it cleans up well. And you've GOTTA post at least a few minutes of the highlights! Come on! Kevin |
