Hey all, new to the community and thought I'd share one of my little secrets... I've been working with Meade telescope mounts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni89TBOTCUA) for a while now to achieve fluid pans in time-lapse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE-rcXUxc2w). I'm also working on software to script drive the head (via laptop) and have found that it does have some application potential in real time as well ( teaser (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXvAG-FSxTw))

It's really inexpensive and fun to use. I've used it primarily for a DSLR but people are starting to see the potential for video as well... here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LodZaT63y4) is a guy that made a nice robust bracket and says that it works fine with a HVX!!

Any way this could be modified to be used as a remote head on a crane? I'm thinking of building a crane, but would like to have a remote controlled head.

I think so... just a flat surface with a 3/8" fine thread (it doesn't have the industry standard tripod stud... go figure?) It's about 5lbs (plus camera of course)

Dolly would be very doable as well. In fact there is a guy messing with that...
