View Full Version : external disk won't play P2 shots in import window

I shot some footage last week that is behaving a litttle weirdly on my Mac. It was shot HVX200 on 2 @16 G P2 cards: 720/24PN. One card was 14G the other 9G each having many shots on them. Typical day's shooting.

I downloaded the footage onto an external drive via FW400 to a 7200 RPM OWC drive I have used many times before. I opened FCP 5.1.2 on my laptop to check the footage in the P2 import window.

I saw the footage but none of the files would play.

I checked that my FCP sequence and capture settings were also 720 24P.

I then put the original P2 cards in the laptop and FCP would play those fine. Only the files that had been copied to the external drive would not play. I tried importing one shot from the external disk and it seemed to import fine.

What's going on here? Why won't the files on the external disk play?

I don't recall ever having this problem before.

Solved on another forum, but for the benefit of DVInfo users who run into this, the problem was in renaming the contents folder and using the '#' sign in the new name (i.e., naming it "Contents #1"). The Mac won't import those files if the name has been changed to include any character other than alphanumerics.
