Purchased the unit a while ago, checked its operation 3 mos. ago; fully functional. It is iRiver 795 w 256 mgb of memory, more than enough for a wedding. The unit was new in the package w Quick Start Guide, Operating manual, Music Manager manual & software on CD.

Bought it to record couples vows at wedding, never used it. This is one of the units that an electret lavaliere mike will work with. All for $65- postage included.

Hi Dave,

It's an ifp-899. I can tell it's not the screen, but a connection somewhere, cause if I press on the lcd, some of it comes back to life. I took apart a dead one I had to see if it would give me any clues, but as you said, it was tough to disassemble, and I didn't want to destroy the other one trying to fix it.

Don't knock yourself out, by any means. I just thought maybe you had come across this before.

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated,

Vito

Definitely seen the problem before, including the intermittent if you press on the shell.

I suspect it's actually a bad screen, rather than in the ribbon cable or connections - it's a very complex assembly (don't know if you got the screen removed from the mainboard or not to see what under it?). If it IS in the actual screen, the only way to repair it would be to replace the whole screen/ribbon cable assembly. Strangely not a single one of the ones I've got has any lines that are "off" to experiment with! BUT I can see about removing a screen assembly - I have an idea if how it might be done, but it may take a custom attachment to a soldering iron, and even so, the ribbon cable is awfully delicate. IF I can sucessfully remove one, the "transplant" shouldn't be difficult.

In the end, if the display is readable (usually is, even with a few lines flaking), probably better to just use it as is.

I have an 8 series that has an audible hiss associated with all the audio files. My other one of the same model/settings/firmware doesn't have it. Do you know of any repairs or tricks for that?

I'll forward this link to a friend looking for some irivers as well.

Thanks for giving us first crack :)

First thing I'd double check is that the line/mic settings are the same in the menus - I seem to recall that the wrong settings can be a bit noisier, and there are several settings. Sounds like you've looked at that already, but that's the "easy fix"...

If that's not it, the likely cause is a faulty daughterboard, a tiny little board that sits under the mainboard and contains all the I/O circuitry... and a royal pain to get to unless you know the disassembly tricks. I don't think I have a "donor" that has a usable board, but I'll double check. I think the only 8 series I have that is "dead dead" was already scavenged for usable parts, but I'll check and let you know!

Hey Dave,

In the end, if the display is readable (usually is, even with a few lines flaking), probably better to just use it as is.

Yep, that's pretty much what I had concluded. I've resigned myself to just never changing the settings for as long as it lasts. I can at least tell when it's recording, so it does the job for now. Too bad there's not an easy fix.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. Hope your sale goes well.

Cheers,

Vito

Canon HV20 with low use - less than 5 hours. I bought this to use as a deck for my XHA1 but ended up with a Firestore so I rarely capture tape.

Does have one small surface scratch on the exterior, otherwise perfect. Comes with (1) battery and charger.

$450 obo.

Kees, Ben,

Found them (my inbox is flooded, anyone got a firehose?), will get back with you shortly, I've got enough of these to "go around" I think, so should be able to work things out for you - will be in touch, I'm looking into an option to get some of the stereo lav pairs I'm currently using, I'd like another one or two myself, so going to try to buy in bulk and pass them along - nice mics, work really well with the iRivers.

Howdy folks,

I'm selling my Canon 5D Mark II (body only), and some accessories. I am in love with this camera, but need to sell it due to cash flow issues -- I'm very sad to see it go.

The camera is in very good shape. I have had it for only about 6 months, and the exposure count is very low. You can check out a couple of videos I made with it (The Laughing Stoic on Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/user1298382)).

Here's the list of things I am selling:

Canon 5D Mark II Body w/ original caps, box, cables, battery, strap, battery charger, documentation, and unfilled warranty card: $2,500.

Three (3) Sandisk Extreme III 8GB Compact Flash Cards: $40/ea
Three (3) *New* Canon 5d Mark II LP-E6 Batteries: $80/ea

Other accessories:

Hoodman Hoodloupe: $70
Redrock Micro Hoodloupe Mount (mounts underneath using tripod mount): $45

Buy the entire lot for $2,800!

Send me an email if you would like to make a serious offer! Prices are fairly firm.

Thanks,

-T.C.

I haven't really used these lenses since I got my 5D2 so it's finally time to let it go. All lenses come have front and rear caps and all prices include shipping (USPS for Cont. US) + paypal. I don't check these boards/pm often so please email mindlee (at) gmail (dot) com.

Sigma 28mm f1.8 - $100 *SOLD*
This lens looks almost new. The focus ring is backwards like Nikons so you turn it clockwise for infinity.

Canon 50mm f1.8 - $40
Cool little lens. Extremely compact. Even though I have a 55mm f1.2, I still used this lens with 35mm adapter because of it size. Lens cap is chipped but still functional. See pictures.

Canon 85mm f1.8 - $120
Very good lens, have some minor dings and normal wear but the glass is clean. It has 55mm thread but I added a step up ring to 58mm to match my 28mm f/1.8 and 55mm f/1.2 and filters.

The next two are inexpensive lenses I used when I first got started with my 35mm adapter. They're not great but not bad either. The great thing about them is that they both used the Tamron adaptall system which lets you switch from Canon FD mount to Nikon F mount. They're priced so low that you would probably pay this much for the adapter itself. One of them have the Nikon adapter and other has Canon. Let me know which adapter you want.

Tamron 28mm f2.5 - $15 *SOLD*
Another very compact lens. Decent, vignettes a bit.

Tamron 35-80 f2.8-3.8 - $30 *SOLD*
This lenses is surprisingly good. The zoom ring is a little loose but function fine. It's a SP lens which is part of Tamron's better line of lenses. This one comes with a case.

And lastly, this is a feeler I'm not sure I'm ready to let go yet:

Canon 55mm f1.2 - ??
This is one I personally took apart and remove the click stops for the aperture ring. This is awesome when filming outdoors in cloudy days because I can smoothly adjust for changing light conditions. I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong aperture ring (which is partly why I resist selling it) but I did this over a year ago and it's still working fine. I'm currently using it with a Bower FD-EOS converter on my 5D Mark II. The focus ring is a little stiff. It's fine if you're focusing by hand but when using it with my Cavision follow focus and Redrock focus rings, it slips occasionally if not tighten down all the way. I wanna know how much people are willing to pay for it and if the right price comes along I might let it go.
