I had a couple of questions since I just got my Xha1!

Question 1. How can i capture in HD to my Windows Vista on Premiere Pro CS3? Do I need a special connection to capture HD to Premiere??

Question 2. Do i need an HD dvd burner to burn HD to a disc? Any suggestions on buying one?

Question 3. A telephoto and wide angle lens came with my camera and i was wondering what setting i would need to put it on so it gets rid of the black around edge of the frame? I just need to know how to do that so i can use the lenses.

Question 4. Does anybody recommend any presets to download from this site?

1. You can capture HDV via firewire (aka: iLink or IEEE1394), if your capture software/NLE supports HDV format. There are other methods available as well, but they require more sophisticated hardware.

2. The two HD media formats are HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. To burn to those media foramts you need a corresponding burner, and they are not compatible. Blu-Ray burners are now available, cost is around $500 give or take, and blank media is perhaps ~$11 each. HD-DVD burners are not yet available to my knowledge, but some DVD authoring programs say they can write HD-DVD format files to a standard DVD (with corresponding play time limitations). For either format you need a corresponding players, and set-top start at around US$250 give or take.

3. Black edge around the frame. Not sure I understand? unless you are speaking of vignetting caused by the wide angle and telephoto adapters. What make/model and rating are they? If these were part of a resellers bundle, they could range anywhere between junk and a serviceable adapter.

4. On presets, what you may need in terms of presets will in large part depend on what you are shooting and what artistic effects you are trying to achieve. Read the forums for discussions of the various presets to see if they sound like something you might want to try, and then use them as a baseline from which to experiment.
