So, I've read about vegas having problems with too many clips in the timeline. Does this apply to the Movie Studio+ version of it too? And does it mean you can't have x number of separate clips, or does it refer to events? meaning, if I have one big movie file, like an m2t, and I cut it up a thousand times on the timeline, will it mess up, or is it if you bring in a bunch of separate movie files?
The reason I ask is, I was doing an edit earlier and I kept getting this error when I'd go to do a selective pre render. At first I thought it was a bad clip, cause it kept doing it at the same spot each time. But then I thought maybe it was cause I had a bunch of stills (I was editing on top of an animatic I had done), and that might have been too many separate files on the timeline.

Vegas allows you to put as many clips as you want on the timeline. Some people have had specific issues with large quantities of certain types of clips but others have no issues at all under the same circumstances. Even if there are issues, it's usually not until you get into the SEVERAL THOUSAND range.

that's just what I'd heard in the forums. I think it's from using the m2t files. Normally I capture one big m2t file and cut it up in vegas, but this time I had about 20 m2t clips in the project, so I'm thinking that was the problem. I'm going to try capturing the whole tape as one m2t file now. I'd like to convert to a cineform avi, but when I try to do that in vegas, it never works right. It always errors out halfway through.

In Vegas 6 there was a limit to the number of HDV clips that could be placed on the timeline. That was long ago resolved.

yeah, I'm using vegas movie studio 6. That must have been the problem then. That or a bad capture. But does that refer to separate files only, or does it also refer to a single hdv clip that is cut up into a bunch of different clips on the timeline?

It was a problem with individual clips. One clip cut up into 500 events isn't a problem. 500 clips into 500 events was a problem.

Oh good. I'm thinking that must have been the problem, so hopefully capturing it all as one file will solve it. Thanks!
