I directed and shot a music video for the second semester of film school, and would like to share with you. It would be very nice to hear some feedback.

I haven't changed anything or rebooted, but just checked again and I heard it.

I think its a good video. I've never done an actualy music video (I plan on it soon for my brother's band) but, the singer's video is out of sync with the audio. Needs to be shifted a few frames... Too many OOF shots (I know you were using an adapter) but.......

Like I said, I think its a good video. Could be better, but what can't always be better?

Looks good. Didn't mind the oof shots too much, but the lead singer did seem out of sync a bit.

The only thing that I didn't like about it was that the lead singer wasn't really conveying any emotion physically (with his body language) until late in the video. He was just kind of standing there and singing. I'm not sure if that's the look you were going for though.

OOF? What does that mean (Out of focus?)? DOF (Depth of Field)?

I loved the video personally... Can't really complain too much about anything it seemed to look great and flow pretty well...

What lenses were you using (and how fast were they) on the M2?

Yes, OOF is Out Of Focus.

You're right, the lead singer is a bit out of sync, it might be 3 or 4 frames. At one point in editing you stop seeing the mistakes, I believe and I know there's more. Some of them I did in purpose or because I had to, like one of the shots of the guitar you can see the M2 spinning disk, it was the best take so I decided to keep it. The shot that we tilt up to show the building in the alley the M2 was actually off.

I agree about the lead singer's lack of physically emotion, and that was my fault because for many times there were lack of direction once I was operating the camera as well. He did pretty good though if you consider it was their fist time performing to the camera for a music video. Btw, it was first time for everything, me using the m2 and xha1, directing, first music video, etc.

In general I spent more time concerned about the composition, camera settings, M2, focus, shotlist, etc, than directing properly.

Doug, I used Nikon lenses:

28mm 2.8 AI-S
50mm 1.8 AI
180mm 2.8 AI-S ED

The 180mm ED is a great lens, super sharp, extreme shallow DOF, I'd recommend to anyone. All the shots with the band were shot only with 28mm and 50mm.

Btw, it was first time for everything, me using the m2 and xha1, directing, first music video, etc.
Then on that note.... it was damn good! I didn't realize it was a first for everything.

What kind of steadycam Did you use for the street sequence?

Luca, It's funny you asking what kind of steadycam I used because it was actually 100% handheld. Originally in the script I had wrote that sequence to be shot with steadycam, but I couldn't get one.

Hey there. Great work, I really liked it. Just curious though, what editing system did you use? And if Final Cut, what settings did you use to export it. I cant seem to get mine to export at full quality. Thanks and again great work.

For some reason, the video had a green/darker hue on my monitor.....probably just my monitor.

Joshua, I used Vegas 7 to edit because I shot 24f and used mpeg4 to export.

Nice MV.. hey its actually only the first shot and a few others in the beginning that are really obvious about the lip sync.. specially the first shot because the first couple words are totally out of sync then it goes back in.. nice job though... very creative with the camera and focus etc..

very nice. I like how you told the story., especially the end where I thought the girl had jumped - then you brought her back -but wait - is she gone again?

The occasional OOF didn't bother me - kind of added a little emotion if anything.

We all do realize that this thread is over a year old right? and the originator of this thread/music video/discussion hasn't posted since October of 2007?
