Two questions actually:

(1) I have a number of Sony SD Mini DV tapes. Can these be used in the A-1 or must I use some sort of high def Mini DV tape?

(2) I have been using a GL2 that is going back. Can I play back footage I shot on the GL2 through the A-1?

If not, is there some way to playback the footage shot on the GL2(SD mini DV tape) for editing purposes down the road...when I no longer have the GL2?

You can play back your GL2 footage without any problems on A1. It's a normal DV SD footage which is fully supported by A1.
