Hello,
I am looking at the benefits of shooting with this camera and wanted to ask anybody who knows or uses an XDCAM HD how many stops of dynamic range the EX has?
Coming from a 1/2" chip DV camera, how much improvement will I see?
For example, when shooting outdoors, do you think there will be a noticeable difference in the amount of highlights the camera can absorb?
Thanks

I have not made any actual measurements, but the dynamic range appears to be very good. On one of the shoots I did it handled black trains with clear sky's very well. I would say it is better than my Z1 if that helps.

Almost identical to the 350.

Thanks.
Do you know the dynamic range for the 350?
I am mainly interested in the difference between the 1/2" chip DV cameras to the 1/2" chip HD cameras in f-stops.

Agreed Simon, when I shot with the EX1 and F350 side by side it was hard to tell which was which much of the time.

Well,
I called Sony tech support and had my question answered.
The tech was very helpful and said that there is basically no difference between the 1/2" chip SD & HD cameras in terms of lattitude.
However,
The HD cameras will product better images and percieved dynamic range because the chips have a lower S/N ratio therefore offering more opportunity to process the image as well as having a better codec and color information recorded.

Does anybody have an exact figure?
