Nice idea.

It would be nice to find a wide converter that comes at 43mm (you are down converting to 43mm) rather than convert.

For example I wonder if the ROWA Japan's 43mm x .45 wide angle

might not work. No guarnatee whatsoever.

The next biggest ROWA lens is the 46mm, which looks like it is from a different series

Somone in Japan managed to use the Raynox HD 5050pro. The biggest ring on the back is 43mm but they said that it does not look pretty.

The Sanyo lens is generally out of stock in Japan

The Raynox DVR1001 (a wide and tele converter two lens package) seems to work when my Xacti HD2 is in high definition mode. When it is in SD mode then the corners of the scren are rounded off black. But as I guess most people use their Xactis's in high definition, this may be a really cheap wide lens alternative. It seems that you can get the two lens pair for about $60.

none of the attachments quite fit but if you put a bit of duct tape around the the 30.5mm attachment it will fit and grip on the inside of the Xacti. it does not grip well.

I use one of the eBay Merkury Optics .45x with pretty good results. Plus they are super cheap $30 ish.

I use a Sony VCL-0746B which is good quality and often available very cheaply and virtually unused on Ebay. It's 46mm, but I've got an old push on filter mount taped to the Sanyo and then a 34-46mm stepup ring screwed onto that. Works very well, with a very small amount of vignetting on the widest angle. I can't add a skylight filter or lens hood on the front though, because that does cause serious vignetting.

I bet Sony has a good quality as well. I tried other brand like FOcus Optic (a lot of other brands OEM it as well), it is not so good.

Yes, I bought another for my Panasonic SD1!
