I have the SGM-1x and I have been very happy with it for the money. I paid $149 - the included shockmount is a nice bonus. I haven't used an SGM-2x so I can't speak to the differences between the two - but I have been pleased with the SGM-1x.

One major difference is that the SGM-1x is a shotgun only. The SGM-2x has a shotgun module and an omni module. I own several microphones that I use for different purposes, so I didn't need a shotgun that doubles as an omni.

So would it be better to have a shotgun or the combo for event video?

Specifically 2nd Camera and 1st camera interview.

Having the ability to break the 2X into a smaller mic is a really nice feature. It performs really well as a handheld in that half-size mode, and it even comes with a smaller ice-cream cone windscreen to make it look and sound legit.

In fact, even in half-size mode, I sometimes camera mount it for close-up interview type stuff. It's lighter and less intrusive, but still grabs directional sound really well.

I highly recommend the 2X over the 1X since it's really not that much more, thus a much better deal. Just remember, the 2X is an XLR mic (thus requiring an XLR Adaptor).

The SGM-x (without a number) is the video camera Azden mic! that has a mini-jack plug.

The SGM-1x has an XLR connector just like the SGM-2x!

Ah, well there you go. Even more reason to go with the 2X over the 1X.

Sorry for my confusion.
