Is it illegal to film the Vegas Strip/Downtown Las Vegas/Hotels for stock type footage? I'm talking about all exterior shots on the street/sidewalks.

I'm talking about all exterior shots on the street/sidewalks. Martin Pauly September 28th, 2007, 07:55 AM Mark, first, there is the question of shooting in Las vegas. Take a look at this thread: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=16285 Then there is the question of whether you can use the footage you shot in a project such as for stock footage. I am no expert there, but I could see potential issues with recognizable names of hotels etc. Maybe it's not an issue, but I would consult with an expert in this area. - Martin Jacob Walker September 28th, 2007, 01:00 PM Hey Mark, Up here in Seattle you have to have a permit to film on any public property. Here is a pdf concerning film permits in las vegas. http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Files/FilmPermit.pdf Even if you don't "have to" have a permit to shoot I would recommend you do. In this day and age you always want your legal ducks lined up in a nice row. Daniel Ross September 28th, 2007, 04:31 PM Permits would be the major concern, if applicable. Any business/logo/etc. displayed publicly, IF SHOT INCIDENTALLY, I think is simply a public location. You could, for example, paint a picture and sell it without any copyright issues. That is, at least, what I think is true... I'm no expert. Confirm it, certainly. Mark Morikawa September 28th, 2007, 06:36 PM thanks for all the info! Don Donatello September 28th, 2007, 08:28 PM i would say that if you looked/acted like a tourist ( wear shorts and colorful shirt) with a video camera w/light tripod ( hand size - i'd include HVX200 size ), maybe rent a few kids to be around you - you can shoot all you want .. now if you have a crew of 10 and actors etc then i'd get some permits .... |
