Any recommended alternatives to the Canon mic mount? I noticed a post about a broken mic mount and it really seems to be the weak spot on the A1. Something using the hot shoe may be an option.

I took the mic mount off of my A1s and use the Rode SM-3 which works fine. I never felt the mic mount was that fragile, just in the way.

Thanks, the particular concern is that I just bought a KATA HB-205 bag, the A1 fits with the mic mount on, but only just so. I'd prefer to remove the mic-mount so I can take some extra bumps (I will post a review of the bag later), and have something reasonably compact that slides on easily.
