Anyone know an effect for "ghosting" an image - for instance; a dancer moving at 80% speed while her movements have "trails".
View Full Version : FCP effect Charles H. Jones September 20th, 2007, 07:45 PM Anyone know an effect for "ghosting" an image - for instance; a dancer moving at 80% speed while her movements have "trails". Daniel Ross September 20th, 2007, 08:23 PM Effects>Video Filters>Time>Trails (and maybe the other two) You can also do this by duplicating the layer (possibly multiple times) then offsetting it a few frames and changing the opacity as desired (as well as perhaps adding blur). Charles H. Jones September 20th, 2007, 08:55 PM is it possible that you have some third party plug ins installed? Because I don't have "time" under video filters. CJ Joseph Hutson September 20th, 2007, 09:14 PM Look again...I found it near the bottom of the hierarchal list of effects. nearsightedproductions.com Charles H. Jones September 20th, 2007, 09:17 PM I'm absolutely sure I don't have it. Now I feel cheated!! Daniel Ross September 20th, 2007, 11:15 PM What version of FCP do you have? I'm using 5.1. Maybe it moved. (Or, if v. 4 or before, might not have it.) If you still can't find it, maybe you should use the method I described before with layering. Charles H. Jones September 21st, 2007, 12:56 AM I have FCP 5.1.4 - I was able to get close enough with motion blur. Thanks Daniel - on both problems. CJ Daniel Ross September 21st, 2007, 10:08 AM See this attachment. I can't believe you don't have it if you have 5.1.4. I do too, and I haven't installed any external plugins. Martin Mayer September 21st, 2007, 10:30 AM I would like to have that "trails" filter too - but I don't - see below: I have FCP v5.1.4. What's going on here, anyone? ( I also notice I haven't got some others shown above too: like the "Tiling" group? ) Daniel Ross September 21st, 2007, 10:44 AM That's weird. The only external plugin in my list is a demo from RE:Vision. You have a lot of plugins there, so maybe it got readjusted as you installed them? I didn't do anything special with this. Just installed right from the CD. I have FCS 1. Do you guys have the standalone? (Do they even make a standalone of FCP now or just FCE?) Martin Mayer September 21st, 2007, 10:55 AM Just searched the PDF manual for "trails" and then "tiling" - found nothing either time. :( This is standalone FCP v5.1.4. Maybe these were introduced with the FCS bundle? Hmmm. Just found this article (http://www.larryjordan.biz/articles/lj_trail_effects.html) which implies "Trails" came in with v.5.1.2. I must investigate further... I wonder if it's related to the fact that I am running an older machine (G4 Dual 1.42GHz), which won't, for example, run Motion? Joseph Hutson September 21st, 2007, 11:50 AM I have trails, and Tiling which consists of two filters. This is so STRANGE!!! check out nearsightedproductions.com Robert Lane September 21st, 2007, 11:59 AM Make sure you have "All" filters available; see attached. Joseph Hutson September 21st, 2007, 12:03 PM How do you post thumbnails, instead of attatchments on DVI? Martin Mayer September 21st, 2007, 12:13 PM Make sure you have "All" filters available; see attached. I do. Curiouser and curiouser. Martin Mayer September 21st, 2007, 12:18 PM How do you post thumbnails, instead of attatchments on DVI? Manage attachments - upload an image - ? (Maybe the forum doesn't thumbnail TIFFs, or files that are too big?) Nate Schmidt September 21st, 2007, 12:52 PM If you don't have those filters displayed it may have to do with the fact that they are GPU based and require a graphics card capable of running Motion. Martin Mayer September 21st, 2007, 01:05 PM If you don't have those filters displayed it may have to do with the fact that they are GPU based and require a graphics card capable of running Motion. I think that's it, Nate - thanks! I know for a fact my Dual 1.42GHz G4 doesn't have a graphics card capable of running Motion. Now I need that date for the upcoming MacPro speed bumps even more! |
