This is OT, but haven't found a good answer on other boards.

My friend bought a cheap digital voice recorder that only has a headphone output. Is there a way she can connect it to her iMac so she can copy a recording to the computer and edit it there?

Others have said yes, you just need a cable with two male minis. I know you can physically connect them, but isn't the headphone level going to be way too high for the mic input on the Mac? Is there some sort of attenuator that would make it work?

It may be OK if you lower the headphone volume. Radio shack makes a mini patch cable and that has attenuation.

It does not matter which way you plug it in. if you have trouble finding the patch cable, Radio Shack used to sell an attenuating mini to RCA female plug adapter that you could configure for your transfer.

Connect to the line in, rather than the mic in. The headphone level should be an OK match for line inputs, without an attenuator - just minijack to minijack.

I agree with Roger, connecting directly from the headphone out to the line in of the computer should be no problem. I do this quite often.
