Im amazed at how few people in the world know who colin is and i think he deserves some aknowlagement. He was a local hero in Lanark Scotland (my home town) and i had the pleasure of meeting him and his family a month ago.His 5 year old son johnny was also killed in the helicopter crash.

I admit that I had never heard of him until I started seeing this story all over the internet. There are even two threads about him here. Sounds like he led a fulfilling life. Very sad to hear that his son died with him.

The first time I ever heared about colin was when I bought the rally game named after him a few years ago (Colin Mcrea 2.0)
I never saw him race though.

McRae is my driving hero, and I was shocked when I found this out. I used to watch WRC religiously every Sunday. Nothing like seeing Colin and Nicky's heads bouncing all over the inside of a Subaru (back in the day) as he kept them semi-airbourne. If it wasn't for the crappy build quality of the Impreza, he'd have at least two more drivers championships, maybe three.
Anyway, glad to see that there are other WRC/McRae fans on DVinfo!

About six months ago there was a local car event at lanark and they had set up a small ralley section, his dad jimmy was there and his brother both went round the track and they were both excelent but when colin went round he just seemed to be going twice as fast, i've never seen someone drive like him before or since. I'm not big on most sports but i used to love going to his ralleys.
