Can anyone tell me what the difference is between 16 and 12 bit audio for the VX-2100 and what should I use? Thanks.

Always use 16 bit. 12 bit makes music sound bad and doesn't do too much for voice either.

If you use 12 bit, you can get 4 channels of sound on the tape but channels 3 & 4 are strictly for use after you have recorded the video and the first two channels of sound. Don't bother.

Would it be possible that the 12 bit setting could make the audio playback sound distorted when going through a DJ's system? I used a 50ft cable with rca jacks from my camera to the DJ's audio equipment and it was a disaster. The audio was extremely hot and distorted. I listened to the tape before the event on my home stereo system and didn't pickup anything like this. Could it have been the connection. He was up on stage, so I could not see if he adapted to a 1/8 mini plug or not. Any experience with something like this?

Thanks,
Ron

I record live bands and i only use the camera audio as a source to synch up my useable audio (in post) i recorded seperately with my audio recorder(in my case a Sony HiMD)
For high quality audio i beleive most use a dedicated audio recording device.

Did you send the cable to the line in or mic in?

Manual or Automatic Gain Control?
