So my source that told me it would be $6000....well at least he got the first number right.

Also kind of funny that many over at DVX user are claiming that it will be close to 10 grand US. They are different market's people. You can't make a direct conversion to get the US price. (Of course that is a Panasonic site so it doesn't surprise me a ton.)

Seems like a word-wide set price by Sony - the same in EU (so far).
Another thread mention prices about 700 USD for 16GB.

As good as these prices are for what it is, it is going to have to wait for me :-( $6K I would have pushed to, but US$7.5K is going to be near AUS$11K, out of my league.

About the only consideration is leasing, and that never looks good to me when you work out what it really costs...

I noticed on the Sony Europe site, they have a no interest for 24 months deal going for and XDCAM units purchased.

This runs out at the end of Sept. Lets hope they offer a similar deal to get the EX in the hands of a lot of people.

My first camera (VX-2000) was purchased with a 12 month no-interest plan from Sony.

It really made the decision for me.

I think that Sony priced it too high, but perhaps they did a survey what the customers are willing to pay for it. Let's see in 6 months. I guess a drop of 1500+ USD within a year.

A 12 month no interest deal is perfect for cash flow. Granted it is somewhat of a gamble to bank on future jobs but if your business is somewhat steady year to year then something like that makes sense.

Discipline you must have to pay the loan in 12 months :)

Actually, now that I remember, the VX-2000 deal was 12 months no interest, no payments.

So I had a year to pay off the camera without any payments in between.

One year, no interest, no payments...I'll take two please.

The Sony - Leasing options are realy good. You can choose 12 or 24 month.
And, 0%!! So, you pay the price of the cam, an about 200€ fees..

The V1u's price in the US dropped about $1000 to $1500 within a few months of its debut. I wouldn't be surprised if the EX drops a bit as time goes on, like you guys are saying. History is always an indicator. But as always, if you need a camera now, grab it. If they offer those great financing deals, jump on it!

IN US$, its Z1 is available ofr US$4,099 at well.known stores in NYC (after $300rebate).

Well according to Chris' chart here (http://www.hdvinfo.net/articles/sonyhdrfx1/compare.php) the Z1 was introduced at $5946, but honestly I don't ever remember it for that much at street price. I got mine in June 2005, less than 6 months after the intro and paid $4,700 at B&H. I had been watching the price and that was a $200 drop from the $4,900 B&H had previously charged.

But if you read the rest of that old thread it's kind of funny how history seems to repeat itself with mixed signals on the price of upcoming Sony products.

I was just basing prices around B&H which are pretty much an 'industry standard'. Unfortunately the rebate is only valid in the US, which is only one country in the world and certainly isn't applicable here, we never get these rebates. US rebates are the way the likes of Sony drop the US price while keeping international prices higher yet discourage people importing from the US (as they don't get the rebate).

What other reason could there be for limiting a rebate to citizens of one country?
