I have a 'crunching' sound handling the manual focusring, looks like sand or dust IN the lens. I am very carefull with the cam and don't understand whats happening. Its now 10 months old. If I use the manual focus for a longer period, it seems to get a little softer (the sound: sggggrrrrr). It is also not on the whole turn, but on a part of it.

Using the autofocus you do not hear anything, I tried to blow a little and with a papercorner to 'free' dust but it wouldn't help.

What do you think, is this something for service within the warranty?

I don't hear anything in my focusing. It might be a good idea to call the service place while it's still under warranty.

Hi,
i just got back from short vactions and i discovered the same symptoms on my A1.
The focusing ring gives terrible crunching sounds, i didn't noticed it before.

I must say it's quiet dissapointing, the camera sounds as if i have took it to the desert to film sand storms, when acctually i was once in the forest and once riding a jeep, where i had it carefully covered with a shirt and every hole exept one sleve taped (i know it sounds bad, but it was done good).
But enough of this moaning...

If i send it to Canon service, does waranty cover cleaning this?
