View Full Version : Curious-A1U is pro. Why in consumer forum?

As an owner of this camera, I'd like to see its forum in the pro section rather than consumer. Sure, the price has come down, but it still goes to the pro side when in for repair and not treated like a "consumer" corder.

Why the downgrade? That's it, I'm calling Sony to whine! LOL :-)

Probably the close relation to the HC models correct?

I think the similarity to the HC series is the logic but the A1 is indeed a pro camera and I must admit the occasional cringe at having to go to a 'consumer' area for posts regarding a pro camera.

Sorry about that. Perhaps I should exchange the consumer and professional monikers with single-chip and three-chip. I'm not all that happy about it either... a forum re-org might be in the works.

I hope I didn't cause any trouble, just thinking outloud. Sometimes that gets me into trouble. But I agree with you Chris, single chip, three chip = cool.

FWIW, the A1 is the heir apparent to the PDX-10 which was also a pro camera. But the the PDX had 3 chips (albeit small.... about 1/5").

Chris has pointed out several times that it's nowhere nearly as simple as counting the sensor chips.

Especially when you consider that the newest high-end Digital Cinema cameras are in fact single-chip (RED, Silicon Imaging, etc.)

So what category do the 4096-CCD 1.4 gigapixel PanSTARRS cameras fit into? Oh wait... never mind... these only take still images for now. ;-)

Nice, I bet a BIG chip too, lol.

Chris,

Decisions decisions, lol. Thinking as a camera, I'd be jealous of the Canon A1's spot up there.

Heh, well this camera is definitely in the pro range, as, when I ordered it, the little Sony leaflet I got with the camcorder was advertising broadcast shoulder mounted cameras and VTR decks, haha
