I've got CS3 and most of my footage is 1080i/60 from a Canon XH-A1. I know that there is no deck that will play back 24F but for the rest of my footage I'd like to get a playback deck. Any recommendations? Computer is a PC, with fw400 and fw800 ports. Video card is Nvidia Quadro FX-560 (4g ram, RAID0 drive for the video). Thanks!

Sony HVR-M15U, do a quick Google for it or check one of the sponsors of this site. Expect to pay around 2k for it, I've had mine for the last 6 months since I got my Canon and love it!

Another way to go would be to pick up a used or refurbished HC3 -- last time I checked they had them for about $799 at Sony outlets. Plus they have HDMI out, which the M15 doesn't.

You won't be able to use a HW edit controller (i.e. DSRM 10/20 for jog/shuttle) but you can burn through 3 HC3s for the price of one deck.

I have two and use them for capture, connected via HDMI to a real (small) HDTV to check focus during capture. Plus now I have two cheap backup cams for B-Roll.

I would get a Canon HV10 or HV20 to use as a deck.

1. It will playback 24F and 30F material and allow you to capture this material.

2. If you need it to it can act as a second backup camera in a pinch.

3. Great for vacations or just messing around the house.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I see that the HV20 has HDMI out so that's probably what I'll get.
