It's not totally natural; if the camera has focused on the foreground, it's not possible to focus on the background as there is no clear image there for your eye to pick up.

So I guess we will all want cameras with huge depth of field when we switch to 3d. If there's a person in the foreground in a true 3d image then our own eyes would provide the blurring of the background :-)

And since this new technology looks so convincingly real, in the future we won't have any need to ever leave our TV sets and go out into the real world...

Yep, and maybe an camera with 8 lens (but seriously, there is an system that can do it with one lens).
