I realize this is probably a dumb question only a newb would ask, but I cant figure it out. When editing in Vegas, for some reason my tracks keep "locking" together. For instance, I have a couple of clips on the timeline, I drag another in, and try to move it around, but all of the tracks move with it. Do I have them grouped in some way? I selected them, pressed Ctrl+Shift+U to de-attach the audio tracks. Did this affect the timeline in some way? This is probably something easy, I just cant seem to figure it out. Is it not possible to move and shorten clips independantly in the timeline?

It sounds like Auto Ripple is enabled.
Turn it off (toolbar icon or Ctrl + L) and things should behave the way you want them to.

edit: Look up Ripple in the Vegas help menu for explanations of this very useful tool.

THanks! That worked perfectly. Have time to answer another? Is there any way to "nudge" a clip forward or backward frame by frame?

The 4 and 6 keys (on the numeric keypad) will do this.
Just make sure that you're not zoomed all the way out as this will cause the clip to move 2 (or more) frames at once.
BTW, the 4th sticky is a collection of Vegas shortcuts.
They're also in the Vegas manual.
For Vegas 7, they start on p. 29 and go on for 8 pages.

Actually, the 1 and 3 keys on the numeric keypad go frame by frame. The 4 and 6 keys go "pixel by pixel" which could be one OR MORE frames depending on your zoom level.
